Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread

Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison of the IE60 vs. IE 80? The only spec difference seem to be the LF control, but the price is a $200 difference in the US.

Do the IE80's sound nearly twice as good as the IE60, as the price would suggest it should?

Quick Answer:  NO

Longer Answer:  As in all things 'audio', money spent is NOT proportional to SQ gained, or: As the SQ improvements increase the dollar (price) required increases geometrically, or damn near.

Thanks.

Agreed that audio gear price increases exponentially for linear increases in SQ (if you're lucky to get any SQ improvement).

I guess the better question is "Does anyone have any experience with the SQ of both the IE60 and IE80 to give an opinion as to whether the IE 80 is worth the price increase?"

I really like my Senn  CX680 IE and looking to upgrade but just cant get a handle on the SQ difference between the IE60 and IE80.

Based on what I read in Chinese forums, the ie 60 seems to be more bassy, warmer sounding compared to the 80. It's said to have a tad more detail than the ie6 but still less than 80, also smaller soundstage and imaging. Some people like it over the 80 for pop songs, but the 80 seems to be better for instruments and classical. The value really depends on your preference.

Having just acquired a set of ie80's, i can't imagine buying iem's that are more bass heavy than these. Especially if they are warmer as the ie80's are already very warm. Unless you are a bass fiend i'd advise you to get the ie80's.

After a few hundred hours of usage, they'll become clearer and less warm.

I'm sure thats true, but regardless they are bass heavy. For me i think the issue is that the bass has less defintion than other iems i've used. A bit boomy.

You do know you can tune the bass, right?

How many hours do you have on yours? They can sound really sloppy out of the box - not to say they get BA tight, but they get better with age. I always felt that the IE8/IE80 had an analogue feel to the bass. I will also say, I kept my bass dial at minimum or just one click up from minimum.

I am now also never using IE80, Havi B3 Pro Mk1 has even bigger soundstage and clearer mids.
At 60$, made me rethink a lot of previous purchases.
They look a bit like IE80, but do not claim to be one - an original IEM, which I now consider to be superior.
