how good value are these for around 300 $ ?
i can get them for that price at a retailer here in sweden

also i listen to dubstep ,house reggae etc would these be good for that?

They are pretty good with dubstep and excellent with reggae, rap etc. The silver cable will further improve them if you want to go that route as well. :)

would these be a good step up from my current gr07?

That will depend on you. Many former owners of the IE8s chose the GR07 due to the IE8s ridiculous mid bass. Otherwise the IE8 was superior in every other way. The IE80 doesn't have the IE8s weakness. Now going off from this I'd say yes its an upgrade overall.

Are you returning it for a replacement or refund? I am curious about your final thoughts (in terms of SQ) on the cable as I see you have the ipod video as the source.

im getting a replacement for it sine it imrpove the overall SQ (soundstage, bass, treble and a bit of clarity) in my opinion. i seldom use the ipod video now because the rockbox firmware really confuse me

Just scored IE80's for
 $329 from razordogdeals on ebay.

Exactly $100 more than what I paid for my IE8's back in April 2009 from VMInnovations then in authorized seller on Ebay.
Those will be going up on the sale forum as soon as I have time.

Looking forward to hearing the IE80's and comparing them to others in my collection.

Guys, you should listen to this song (in FLAC). It sounds incredible with the IE 80s!

Everything is good except for the singer, sibilant and poor control of her voice, sort off like holding back.

Really? I find her to be quite a good singer. Maybe it's that specific song. I didn't find her voice to be as smooth on the chorus..

It's even more obvious here singing the cover of Julia Fordham's song. The IE80 reveals it. Straining when it comes to the difficult parts and sibilant wisps. I prefer Lani Misalucha over Nina anyday. Another better singer is Faith Cuneta.

Quick question... are those large foams (in the IE80 pkg) Comply T-500? I hope not, because they seal poorly. I am hopeful that the Tx-500 will be a better fit for me. Thanks.

No, they're not.  Don't buy any Comply tips for the IE80s, they tend to boost the bass even more at the expense of the highs and mids.  I didn't like them at all, and now I'm stuck with 2 pairs out of 3 in a $19 pack of Ts-500 tips.

Thanks, so what worked for you (if anything)?
