Sennheiser IE300 Review & Measurements
Apr 30, 2022 at 1:48 PM Post #512 of 738
I would stay clear from all Sennheiser IEMs that follow the same IE300 FQ curve.
Things like the Titan S from Dunu or Tanchjim Hana V2 will provide a better overall sound.

Of course if you have the means, the IE600 is the IEM to get.
Have you heard them or just visualizing?

Hello folks,
I now have used the IE300 for more than half a year and payed full price for it.

First the positives :
  1. The build
  2. The fit
  3. The looks
The negatives :
  1. The mids are not transparent
  2. The mids get crowded
  3. Lack of upper midrange
  4. Volume increase to have the mids high enough, this results in overbearing sub and midbass as well as high treble
  5. Hollow midrange, lacking a bit of weight
Conclusion :

These are not worth it for 300 and even for the current price of 200 in Europe. The tuning alone make these a nonstarter headphone !

Comparison :
  • IE300 vs TWS 1000XM3 => The tuning of the TWS makes them a better headphone, period !
  • IE300 vs GR09 => no chance for the Sennheiser
  • IE300 vs Titan S => again the tuning make these better, though the Dunu has shouty upper mids
  • IE300 vs Tanchjim Hana V2 => again no chance

All in all, settle for the Sennheiser IE600 with proper mids according to the measurments
So you value midrange and dislike the ie300 midrange performance, your negatives are all about the mids. The ie300 isn't my favorite IEM, I like a lot of bass and contrary to many reviews I don't find them to be overly bassy. I don't find them lacking in midrange though that is probably because I don't value it the most. For someone seeking a nicely tuned bassy IEM they would not be my first recommendation but definitely amongst them.

You identified it, the midrange is the most important to me.
This is the only thing the IE300 does not do well.
Still I'd give it a 55/100 for the midrange, not bad.
Everything else on the IE300 is a 90/100 at least, that is why I'm a tad disappointed.

If the IE600 meets my expectations, I'd sell every other IEM I own.

Any affordable cables for the IE300? Ideally once that dont have any microphonics
I ended up taking a TRN T2 Pro cable, and using nail clippers to cut off the plastic color coded bit at the end. I specifically used a bigger size nail clipper.

It’s a little messy because this is the side i experimented with using a knife first, but the other end looks much cleaner.

Definitely would use this method again if the current cable breaks, I get a new cable I like, or I get the IE600s.

Actually, I also just got an aliexpress delivery today, and just got a cloth covered cable from openheart that fits perfectly and that I like the feel of as well. Didn't require any modifications. The connection feels more secure than than the cable I just randomly snipped off the end bits.

That looks nice! How is the weight, is it not heavy from the cloth?

So far they’ve felt pretty light, the individual strands are quite thin

edit

Just weighed the cables, the open heart cable when connected is 29.36 grams, the plastic t2 pros are 30.84 grams

Thanks so much for taking the effort to take out a scale and weighing them for me - super nice of you!

The cable looks great and it not requiring any mods to fit on the IE-300 is a huge plus. Guess I'll have to order one soon

Hah I love my IE 400 Pros. They’re so smooth sounding in the treble and the bass actually doesn’t seem that loud to me (probably because I run them at like 50% volume)

I also own the IE 100 Pros and they still sound great but maybe a bit on the thin side. Still great sounding though. If anything happens to my 400s, I’d have no issues going back to my 100s.

On receiving my ie300 I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very different from the descriptions in some reviews. Some of the complaints were absurd and some misleading.

I believe that there is a cable from Effect Audio that will fit it. I have modified a balanced generic mmcx cable to fit with no modification to the IEM. I just shaved down the plastic connector housing on the cable with a knife to make it narrower so it can reach the socket on the IEM. It took a few minutes and looks rubbish because I'm too lazy to make a neat job of it.
