I’m really enjoying the sound of the IE 200 but I can’t understand why people like braided cables. To me the cable is louder than the straight rubber cable that came with my IE 100 Pro and IE 400 Pro.

How can I minimize the microphonics of these twisted cables?

Looking at aftermarket options, I can’t seem to find any non-twisted cables. The IE 300 cable would probably work but I can’t seem to find that one for sale anywhere.

Also, why are Sennheiser balanced cables so darn expensive?

After many hours of going back and forth between these two, I have reached the conclusion that the IE200 and IE300 excel at different things, and complement each other rather than compete against. If you own the IE300, make sure to give the IE200 a try.

I agree although I don’t have the IE 300, I have the IE 400 Pro which has a very similar sound signature. I also have the IE 100 Pro.

I feel like the IE 200 fits perfectly in between the 100 Pro and 400 Pro in terms of sound signature and technicalities.

Agree big time here!

Nice review. Thank you.

Sennheiser IE200 with some of the competitors. The IE200 is not bad, but the competition is pretty fierce in the under $200 segment. Also, the under $100 is starting to catch up. So far, I quite like the IE200, but it doesn't WOW me like the Wan'er did. The horrendous stock cable of IE200 is not helping it either.

Moondrop Kato, Letshuoer S12pro, Seeaudio Yume Midnight, Tangzu Wan'er, Tangzu Wu Zetian Heyday, Truthear Hexa.

Is the Wan'er the favorite out of that collection so far?

The Heyday is my favorite. I put the Wan'er slightly above the Hexa just because I like the tuning more.

My review of the Sennheiser IE 200 is now out. You can have a read here.

To summarize: I like them a lot. It took some time for them to grow on me, but once they did, there was no looking back. If you want a natural tuning without being bombarded with treble peaks or hazy sub-bass, the IE 200 are about perfect.

Unfortunately for my wallet, I liked the IE 200 and IE 300 so much that I went ahead and purchased the IE 900. Ah well...

Thank you for that review! I think you hit the nail on the head describing the tuning goals.

After using the IE 200 for about a week now, here's how I think they compare to the IE 100 Pro.

Things I like about the IE 100 Pro:
  1. Better cable (IE 200 braided cable is really cheap feeling and microphonic)
  2. Better connection (the Pentaconn-Ear connector on the IE Pro series feels sturdier than MMCX)
  3. No tuning port (the dual tuning of the IE 200 makes it hard to tip roll, and thus mileage may vary from user to user)
  4. Way better ear tips! (Actually, I'm using the IE Pro eartips on my IE 200 because they're thicker and a bit deeper. They give me a better seal and punchier bass)
  5. They're easier to drive (for some reason the IE 200 are weaker at the same volume percentage)
  6. Wider soundstage (the IE 200's extra bit of ear gain reduces the perceived sound stage a bit)
  7. Mid bass is a little stronger and more impactful. (IE 200 sounds a little lean in comparison)
  8. Better chin slider. It slides effortlessly. (IE 200 is just a piece of shrink tubing and the braid makes it hard to slide it)

Things I like about the IE 200:
  1. Sub bass is definitely more prevalent
  2. Better fitting. They're a bit smaller and tuck into my ears further. I really like the fit.
  3. Vocals sound a tad more forward, but it's not night and day to me
  4. I really like the look and shape design of the ear pieces (The IE 100 Pro looks a little cheaper put together with a very apparent seam between the 2 sides of the shell)
In my humble opinion, I still find myself going for the IE 100 Pro. I'm surprised they don't get more love around here. I'm hoping some of you would be willing to at least try the 100 Pro at some point and see if my views of them align with yours.

Overall, the IE 200 is NOT at all a bad sounding IEM. They're very tame and easy to listen to. I really like them, but they weren't a huge upgrade from my IE 100 Pro.

I can't really compare them to the IE 400 Pro right now because for one, they're out for repair and for two, the 400 Pro has a pretty big difference in sound signature/technicalities and they're more than double the cost.

If I never got the 100 Pro and only had the 200, I think I'd love the IE 200 much more.

My thought on the IE200 off to a rough start but I love my set very much.
Made me a Senny fan.

First, welcome to the #IE200Club and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Regarding putting the effort into synergy, there aren't too many afraid of that here 😎

Glad you're enjoying the smooth experience. I've been lucky enough to also try it balanced (4.4mm) through @gc335 's M17 and it was quite a treat. I've even done some home HDV 820 listening for kicks (odd pairing but fun) and loved the retention of the smooth sauce. I'm an awful person to ask about tip rolling because the stock mediums have always fit me perfect, but the community has some great recommendations for physical fit. This is a set that will work great with customs one day down the line.

Thanks for the video and enjoy!!
