The make or break on these for me will be the bass performance. If they have a nice level of bass (think Focal Clear / Ether Flow) then I will definitely be looking heavily into these. I will wait for definitive reviews and measurements though. I wonder if Jude or anyone else is going to CES and will be able to have a listen / give brief impressions? Or at least snap some photos!

Prediction: Tyll will immediately declare these "best headphone in the world", but leave plenty of room to backpedal a few months later. They will then be replaced on the Wall of Fame by Koss PortaPro 2s.

I must say, they look very sexy.
Another manufacturer notices that you can make a minor upgrade and charge double the price for it? Hmmm. We shall see but that price seems alarming.

My thoughts also. Why do they need 2400eur now? I wouldn't say 'minor upgrade' rather 'minor change'. Whats going to happen when they actually do some R&D for real HD800 successor? 5k, 10k..?
No thanks, at these prices I'll go back to speakers.

Just got a new pair of hd800s.
Is this a new flagship to replace that?

Nope.
This is for those who don't want others to be annoyed by the sonic bleed from the listener's listening sessions.
Take a couple in bed and one partner likes to listen to music the other one doesn't like... or wants to get to sleep.
Closed headphones are the answer here.
