Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Due to holidays and associated liabilities I only had a short time to compare, but I'd say they are not that far away from each other tonally (which surprised me), with the Master-1 having more bass impact, the HD800S being a bit clearer and reaching impressively low. Soundstage is a bit narrower on the Master-1. To me the S is much more involving than its older brother -- which was one point I always liked about the Master-1.

sounds promising. i should be able to audition the hd800s early in the new year. i'll make a point of comparing it to the hd800 and might throw in the he1000 and t1 (2 gen) as well.

well chord TT is on order with these puppies. The credit card has taken a bruisin but sound and music my audio friends, is just that high on the utility charts. After a while let you know my thoughts. happy seasons.

Well finally sitting down with the HD800S and some of my favourite Wynton Marsalis albums and with the older HD800 headphones, I found it a bit tiring with the emphasis on the treble (and glare), so I tended to stay away from this combination. Well, the good news is that this combination now is fantastic! They are NOT the HD850s (like the HD650s were to the HD600s), but an improved pair of HD800's that really took away some of the biggest issues I had. Throw in a bit more punch down low and it's win-win!

I ought to just order from Meier now instead of waiting for US retailers.

Absolutely! I ordered mine on Friday and they were here by the following Wednesday.

I understand that the highs are different(less bright overall?) , but How is the treble different from HD800?can anyone give an example that will make it easier to understand?
Thanks.

Very much extended, but without the "peak" at 6kHz and no ringing in that range (so no glare), but everything else seems pretty much the same. Amazing how the engineers at Sennheiser pulled this off? But as we say in Canada: ERTW!

Between the HEK and HD800S, which is more musicality to you? What does the soundstage? Does HD800S still feel that you are listening to music on the 5th / 6th row as compared to HEK which is more than 2nd / 3rd row?
