Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

I just had a conversation with Sennheiser. All the headphones that were ordered have been shipped yesterday and I hope to receive them today or on Monday.
 
They made it till X-Mas!!!  
 
Of course all the customers who have placed a pre-order will be served as fast as possible.

Today I wrecked my beloved modded HD800. I yanked a tube before my amp had fully discharged the capacitors and made a very loud BANG through the right channel. My hearing has recovered and the amp is undamaged, but the HD800 headphone is toast.
 
Sad loss, but the timing could not be better with the HD800S available. Have contacted Meier Audio - will place an order once they get back to me with the necessary details.
 
I loved the HD800, but it needed the modding to tame that treble. HD800S has that built in and a better bass response? Count me in

Between the HEK and HD800S, which is more musicality to you? What does the soundstage? Does HD800S still feel that you are listening to music on the 5th / 6th row as compared to HEK which is more than 2nd / 3rd row?

 
The HD800S's sound stage has remain unchanged (a good thing). The HE1000's are still more musical to my ears.

A Glenn 300B custom job. Fantastic amp that has great synergy with the HD800. I am hoping the HD800S makes a great match also.

It is a magnificent beast. Less expensive than a WA5 and, to my ears, a heck of a lot better sounding.

I've just had my delivery text, will have the HD800 S this afternoon. I have a benchmark dac1 so I can run my current Hd800 at the same time, should be good for quickly swapping so I can give impressions on how different they are. Will post some impressions later.

You use a DAC1 to drive your HD800? Interesting... I'm not overly sensitive to treble but that's a combination I think I might avoid, to me the DAC1 itself was always a bit dry/harsh even, the HD800 has a tendency in the same direction, so combining them would not have come to my mind to be honest. Do you have any specific reason to choose this combo?

Have not listened to dac 1 but it runs with an akm chipset, which is what the hpa8 runs on from fostex. I really like the th900 combo with a8 as you may know. It reaches low but pushes and clears the Mids and highs which to my ears is exactly what the th900 needs. I will find out how the 800s sounds on Hugo TT and test it on the a8, but I figure I will conclude its TT over the akm chipset.

I got it cheap and its transparent . I had the hdvd800 and it sounded about the same when I blind tested myself so I sold that. Don't want to derail the thread with amp /dac talk but I'm happy with my benchmark and it drives all my headphones with ease and they all sound as they should from it.
