Ugh... Just when I thought I could quit spending on Head-Fi for awhile...

Axel Grell was on hand at the Tokyo headphone festival to talk about the HD800S headphones. I'm definitely looking forward to trying them.

The video kind of gives a better idea on availability. He says the amp will take some months to reach the market but HD800S should be "soon".

So, does S stand for Sibilance? Or... lack thereof (hopefully)?

I doubt the HD800's price is going to be dropped (not to alienate the userbase), so... instead, expecting the S to cost 2K+.

Looks like the all jet-black Colorware HD 800. I personally like the colour scheme of the regular more.

Hope it's not $600 for two pieces of sorbothane!

hahah that was actually exactly what I was thinking.

The S probably stands for two pieces of Sorbothane added.

Would have been a lot more interesting if they completely refreshed the model. I mean it's been like 15+ years. Kind of hard to get too excited about the same headphone with mods added that the community has already explored. Hopefully, there is a little bit more than just some additional damping added & a black paintjob.

edit: looking forward to seeing how it measures & performs though

I'm digging the black. I've always wanted a black HD800 so that + some sound improvements sounds great to me.

I'm just worried about the price being way too high for what you are getting in improvements.

Depending on what gets added to it and the difficulty of the mod, regular HD800 users may not have to shell out the cash for a new one?

If they just added foam and lil improvements here and there, the price should either stay the same or be slightly increased IMO. With Audeze or Hifiman, I'd definitely expect a huge price jump, but don't see that happening with Sennheiser (hopefully not).
