Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

I so want to kick the ass of the Sennheiser designers. The headphones are sounding great, but the comfort is crappy for a lot of people. See hotspot problem. And it's the same design since HD800 non S.

On the contrary, most people find the 800 series comfortable.

Isn't it better to satisfy all? Just take ZMF as an example how to make comfortable headphones.
Heavy and uncomfortable u mean?

Everyone has their own preferences. I find the 800S superbly comfortable. There isn't such a thing as perfect headphones for everyone.

There is no headphones that satisfy all. As much as I like the comfort of the ZMF, their weight alone drops them below the HD800 comfort level for me…

I had no weight problems with them at ~450 g. You would need light wood and magnesium chassis for that. Furthermore the recent Crescent headband is supposed to be more comfortable than the former.

By the way, HD 800 S really weighs about 370 g, why it's 330 g in the specifications everywhere - a big mystery.

hey guys, just got my hd 800s like an hr ago, and already I hate the cable, lol. I've seen somewhere that people have adapters so they can use mini xlr or 3.5mm cables instead of this god awful proprietory connector cable, can anyone point me to the direction of where to get a well made one? Been looking around, haven't had the best luck.

The amount of people who complain that ZMF's are too heavy seems to far outweigh the number of people who find the HD800 uncomfortable (at least on this site).
The combination of things that make a headphone comfortable to you can be agony to a hundred other people. Every design decision enrages someone, but I'd say overall the HD800 physically enrages few. Unfortunately, your part of that small camp.

There's an old saying I've heard a bunch up here in Canada: "you just can't please 'em all."

There are loads to choose from but my only advice would be to stay away from anything with a silver content, just go for a good purity copper otherwise you will make the headphones sound too bright.

800S are sounding fantastic with the Periapt 4-pin XLR cable. It seems to have a little better grip of the low end.
Waiting to get a Burson 3X GT to really take the 800S to the next level.
