Hi guys, i had a problem with the topping e30+l30 stack i've bought on the aliexpress blackfriday deal for $188 both. They did not arrive so i had to request a refund.

The problem is that now the prices are way higher. So, i need to know a good budget dac/amp combo por my brand new hd660s. I am currently using it connected to my PC.

I’ll admit I don’t own a 660 anymore but I think I’m going to sell my 6xx to a friend (I’ve been slowly exposing to better sound because he loves music too) and get another one. I remember enjoying it more. (RIP Lyle Mays)

During my listening marathon down memory lane last night. one thing stood out with the 660S, that I don't seem to recall with my Hd650s and 6XX and that was the increased sound stage depth, width and especially the image layering. It was also educational to occasionally pop on the 800S for comparisons, which obviously were like stepping into a larger, airier venue which didn't necessarily add to the appreciation of the music though and actually worked against some pieces which were better portrayed by the more damped presentation of the 660, but both pairs have their place though.

Sorry, i forgot to mention that it must be something on aliexpress, as every import to here, customs tax are 60%. The only shop that it is harder to tax is from aliexpress. There is the ifi zen dac and can there but it is $250 each.

I saw that the Tempotec Serenade IDSD is on sale from $139 to $91. Its a dac/amp combo. Would it be good with the 660s?

God, I hope these aren't some kind of hoax/vaporware.

If these are real, then this is amazing news! It's just really strange that Sennheiser hasn't announced anything about them yet.

Guess we'll all just have to wait and see how this plays out.

I know exactly what you mean about the 800S. It’s obviously a “better” headphone except when it comes to enjoying music.

In driving power certainly yes, in SQ I have no idea, but E1DA has excellent reviews everywhere and can also be a portable option with a smartphone.

Funny, I completely forgot about Grado, had 3 pairs at one time.
Anyway, just by happenstance I've got Joni Mitchell's "Hejira" playing instead "The Billion Dollar Brain", lol..I regress, but does make me reminisce of when I first picked up Mitchell's album on vinyl in 1976, sometime after finishing university, remembering how well it sounded over my Koss Pro 4AAs and here we are 45 years later appreciating the same album all over again on the 660's....a lot of water, in so many ways, under the bridge...

I just checked into this thread while going through a 70's playlist. Within 15 to 20 seconds of reading your post Joni showed up singing Big Yellow Taxi.

I wasn't listening to the 660's though.

For those who have the 800s, is the 600 series a good introduction to the 800’s sound signature, or are there other headphones around the $400-500 price point (not necessarily Sennheiser) that would be better examples?

I don’t think so. The 600 series is all about the midrange where the 800 series is all about resolution and wide soundstage meaning treble emphasis.
The HD700 is really the link between 600 and 800.
