Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

So I just watched Tyll Herstens' YouTube review of the 660... was almost reaching for the "cancel" button on my Amazon order...

But digging a little deeper, I see he hates Grados, of which I'm a huge fan. It's funny, watching his review and listening to his main criticisms of the 660, I was thinking "I'll bet he's not a Grado lover..." and it was true.

So, I may love the 660 for the same reasons he doesn't. I also don't have a lot of experience with the 600/650 and can listen to the 660 on their own accord, and not through a framework of love/reverence for their beloved predecessors.

Just an update: I did cancel the 660 order, but not because of Tyll's review. A sale came up on 600s here in Canada, so I went with those for $260 less than the 660. I do want to try the 660 in the future, but I think I'll wait for a great price. At full price, they seem a bit overpriced.

If the 600, 6XX or the 650 we're so readily available then the 660 would be a a better buy.

I am in Canada also and I bought the HD600's twice. Both used and both for $300.00.

I bought the HD660's as an open box product and they cost me $550.00, landed.

My second set of 600's is now for sale. I Really enjoy the 660's, even at almost double the price. Although to be fair that is new VS used.

You never know 'till you try. Although if you're happy with the 600's, why spend the extra money? :relaxed:

Hi Fellow Canadians. I got these when they were under the 500$ usd tag (360$ iirc). I personally didn't get with the 650 at all and for my personal usage (didn't feel like being stuck behind a station.

The 660 at its previous price was more than competitive. You don't need to spend for any additional amping to make it sound great with most daps.

I place the 600 for a close second for its uber smooth easy to melt sq. I'd gone for the 660s for its rich and engaging timbre -- one of my favorite traits in any hp.

I got the 600 new for $120 less than they usually sell for here. They should be arriving today and I’m super excited. I’m kind of done with used headphones.

I do want to try the 660 in the future. They were on Amazon a few weeks go for $500 Canadian, which is about $380 US. If I see them at that price again, I’ll definitely grab them.

I keep an eye out for open box/demo deals. This year I have picked up the Sundara's, the 660's and the Fostex TH-610's for very good prices.
That combined with Black Friday and Boxing week sales should net a few good deals in the next several weeks.

I can get new for 270€ but I heard these are lacking bass

Depends on what you are accustomed to and the amp you will be running them from. We had a discussion in the HD 600 forum a few months ago and many opined that the bass is not at all lacking, it's just right. It's that too many people expect unnatural slam and overdone bass. Anyway, I don't want to derail the conversation. Give them a try if you can, nothing comes close in terms of how natural the sound is, especially vocals.
