The NS10 had very forward high-midrange and little bass. It was used to spot artifacts more easily.
The perfect headphone depends on the listener and on the album. For example, if an album has +7dB at 8kHz and a Beyerdinamic has +7dB in that area, too, the result will be a painful +14dB. But with a HD650 that has -7dB at 8kHz, the result will be a perfect match. But if the album is mixed with -7dB in the highs, a HD650 will make the highs disappear almost completely.
For example, I prefer to have no highs on some albums and enough on others than enough on some and too much on others, that's why I use the HD6xx series. Also, there are a lot more albums with too much highs than with too little, so I cannot put myswlf through phonic torture on a lot of albums to be able to hear the highs more clearly on the very few albums that have weak highs.
