Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

How many hours of break in did you do with the 660 to make it “sing” correctly?

How do you loose the headband:

1) by the centre of the headband

2) using a force on the metal parts, putting them out fully

What is the safer and correct method?

I returned my HD 660s early this week and I'm keeping the HD 600 instead.

HD660S feels as a more modern headphone, that's obvious for me. It delivers a very clear sound but it's hard to describe, I get tired too soon listening to them. I really wanted to like them... But after a couple of weeks comparing to the HD 600 bought for less than 200€ I decided to choose the 600, the price is less than half and the quality is still superb.

I will somehow try again with modern sennheiser with the future HD58X.

CN you please compare both the hd600 and 660? Wich sound Fuller/thinner? Wich hás more bass and punch?

Saw a hd800-hd650-hd660 comparison in a post on the previous page. The hd660 is always the too bright one, while hd800 just detailed. How can that be? Hd800 are overly bright, one of the brightest headphones on the market, while the hd660 are only slightly brighter than hd650. I consider the hd660 neutral at best, if not slightly warm, despite being brighter than hd650.

My personal experiences having tried the HD660S for a time is in line with others voicing their comments that the HD660S is more of a successor to the HD650. I can't understand Sennheiser saying they are an update to the HD650. I listened to it both balanced and unbalanced, and preferred the HD660S balanced. I prefer both my HD600 and HD650. To me the HD660S is noticeably more forward and energetic in how it presents the music than the HD600 (Edit: I corrected this as I mistakingly referenced the HD660S to the HD660S) without possibly the veil that people talk about so much with the HD600/650. I never could really find that. I found listening to the HD660S ultimately gave me a greater appreciation again for the HD600. I use a Jotunheim with a Mimby for my system.

Part of me was tempted to keep the HD660S, but with a Jubilee 58X coming I decided I could pass. I would have kept the HD660S at 300, but couldn't see them knocking my HD600/650 off their perch at 500, and was equally as impressed with some HE-560s I was comparing around the same time. The best advice I can give personally from my limited experience in describing what I am hearing is these are an upgraded HD600, and not an HD650, and if you are interested how they sound, think of them along those lines. I hope that can be of some help to some people. I'm sick at the moment and can't recall as well as I would like.

So, the hd660s are a succesor to the hd650, but you can't understand how they can be an update to the hd650. Then, the hd660s are more forward than the hd660s.

This is no problem. I did this to the HD650 and the HD660S, it works just fine. And you still can slide the extensions back in.

The T90 is an absolute treble cannon, the treble quality is good but way too much treble. The HD 800 is dark in comparison.

The bass and overall the detail and definition is better with 660S. But it is too bright for my taste. Just that. As other said it would be a keeper with a lower price.

600 is a magical balance for me. Clearer and brighter than 650, but in the right amount... For me.

The price of the future 58X makes more sense to me to have another sound signature at home.

The 660S is great but I suggest to try first or buy it with return possibility. Just in case.

But would you say that being brighter, the hd660 also sound thinner than the hd600?

Got that the bass on the 660s is better but what about quantity/presence/punch? Wich one hás more?

Anyway.... I think i will pass. I AM more and more tempted on the hd650 and since i already had some tinitus effect at first with the hd600, the hd660 may br even worse (weird, never had this kind of issue before the hd600 and ibalso had the dt770 80ohm, mdr v6, and other brightish cans).

Also, given that i want the hd600 sound but a bit more Fuller and bassier sounding i think the hd650 is the way to go for me.... That and the price....
