oh god I just did this too and I have to agree I miss the foam !! what do I do ? lol

You don't need new drivers and you can pry the foam back in with a flat tiny screwdriver. It's a bit of a pain but it can be done.
IMO the foam removable mod (on the back of the driver) is the worst "mod" i've ever heard. Tried it once and immediately hated it.
For me it just bloats the bass and sucks out the mids.

With the HD-600 (and probably HD-650) if you cover the back of the driver up with a foam square you get LESS bass and more mids.
HD-650 doesn't need this IMO.

Always wondered why anyone would want to hack the insides out of a great headphone on the offchance it might sound even better??
Other people may have done it and liked it, but its a hell of a risk to take when you're dealing with another's subjective opinion...

+1.

Just trust the sound engineers from Sennheiser. They have years of education and experience in that specific industry (in which they excel). So to me, modding just seems like a bit of a disservice to their hard work and design. It's like a master chef put in the effort to make you a gourmet dish with a specific flavour and taste... and you wanna throw tons of salt and pepper, or hot sauce on it.

Sometimes...by the time the procurement spec-ed it...
And the manufacturing floor produced it..
The foam...pads...cellulose...etc
Might hv been somewhat diff from the final prototype.

Commonly we see a simple change of pads can sig change the sound..

It still seems kind of wrong. If you want a different sound, why not try a different headphone...?

well a eunuch is a castrated man already so I think the right way to have put it was "a eunuch in heat" but I don't really give a crap lol and I still find it funny, :) because it is true now I regret removing the foam :frowning2: I guess i'm going to have to find something to fit in there :frowning2:.

Well said, sir. I stand corrected on the redundant use of the word "castrated".  To each his own. I like a more forward sound. The laid back signature of the HD650 makes me want to claw inside the drivers and pull the vocalist closer...  Anyways, I did notice a certain edginess to the highs of the naked 650. So, now I added 2 layers of silk stockings...

The mids are still forward-sounding and the highs are still very well extended but the stockings sapped off the edginess in the treble.

Now, this is an overkill.

I did the mod simply because I have gotten quite used to the sound of the Beyerdynamic T1.  Now, the 650 that I have recently purchased was offered at a bargain price that was just too good to pass up.  And it is brand new.  So I bought them. But the mids -- particularly, the vocals -- just sounded like they were presented on a soundstage 2 steps further back than the T1s.  So I decided to mod it to bring it forward.  I understand that not many share my preference, but to each his own in this hobby, sir.

Besides, I get a better treble extension as a result of the mods.
