sure should have waited...anyway my brother has his money on a saving account, i´t´ll be a good idea getting criminal to subsidise my audiophil compassion, lol.

anyway i was just browsing the sales forum, when i saw that people were asking for HD650 with the silver driver. can somebody point me to an explanation of those drivers please (couldn´t find anything except for sale offers using silver driver hd650). thx

EDIT: ok found a link on the web about this silver driver

Quoted from the above linked article: "The change seems to be universal, covering all three HD580, HD600, and HD650s"

I own 2 pairs of HD580's, one black screen and one white.  I have never been able to discern any audible difference between the to headphones.   I can't tell anyone what they are hearing, but from personal experience I read stuff like this will a healthy bit of skepticism.

Who knows, maybe it was a cost cutting measure!!

I can't spot any differences between black/silver driver on 580/600 too. But i can hear the differences on black vs silver 650

I've heard mention in the comparisons between new/old driver versions that the newer 580/600/650s are all much easier to drive, even if there's contention about whether they sound any different from the old ones.  A/B'ing mad dogs (~50 ohm) vs. HD650s (purportedly 320 ohm) seems to confirm this as I feel volumes are dead even between the two.  Would this be a concern if I were considering an OTL tube amp like valhalla/crack, seeing as they're supposed to be such poor matches with low impedance phones?

I know those two amps have been recommended a ton for HD650, but I wonder if many of these recommendations have been made specifically with regards to the new driver versions.

I'd say the DT880 is more like a nice dry Pinot Noir. Or maybe like a vodka red bull...

BTW no lies MattTCG... I swear you're like the #1 Lyr advocate for the HD 650s =)  Each time I read you raving about the combo it pushes my upgraditis a bit further...

but for now I must resist and continue to enjoy the e17/e09k combo... would seem unfair to them as I've only had them for about 5 months.  perhaps in a year or so......

I just received my 650s today and have the e17/e09k combo too.  When the e17 is docked  what volume level do you have it set to?  I ask because it seems if my e17 is set to the default '20' mark I have to turn the e09k knob almost all the way up, but when I have the e17 set at 30, I only have to turn the e09k knob to a little after 12 o'clock.

I've used the HD600s with my e17/e09K too.  I usually keep the e17 volume midway at 40, letting me keep the e09k at 10-11, but I don't think it's critical how you balance the two volumes.

Wind at 30  mph...Temperature is dropping 50 degrees in 12 hours and I have the HD650's in the house.....Time to hole up for a night of great tunes!

On the side of the E17 is a Lo bypass switch. Move it, and it will delete the volume function on the E17 when plugged into the E09. Now just use the E09 to adjust volume. Set the E09 gain according to taste.

I use the LOBypass so I don't have to get amplification from e17.
