Thanks. Anyone else use a preamp?
The Taurus MKII can also be used as a preamp, so I'm using one.

How does it effect the sound?

Can't find a link, sorry. The track is Gisele by Jean Michel Jarre. You won't be disappointed.

FiiO E18 to go with HD650, yay or nay?
I'm asking since the recommended impedance for the E18 is 16 to 150 ohm...

Vote for nay here but its just my guess after reading the specs of the E18, I'm a tube persons so a little bias here

When I had the HD650 I used the Burson HA-160D which also serves as a pre-amp. A very nice combination imho.

Well I figured either a) someone has tried it and it worked great or b) someone could point me to a portable amp that actually works with HD650.
Seems like every portable amp is made for 16-150 ohm...

They can't hang with dedicated desktop amps. But they perform admirably for portables

If you're looking for a good portable amp, try the Mojo by Chord. You won't be disappointed.
Weeks or months back some people reported good results with the E12A, which is weird considering it was released specifically for low impedance IEMs.
But if it works for you, it works. John Green eats cereal with water instead of milk because he likes it, and he's the one eating it. Same as headphones.

Finally received my black widow this evening. Powerful, lush, & tubelike in its presentation. Anyone shopping for a ss amp in the future should give this a listen.

Nice, a Black Widow and a Glenn OTL. I thought Craig was doing two runs of Black Widows only?

Yes, but the second run hasent been announced yet. So anyone could probably get in on it. I waited 14 months for this amp. Well worth the wait imo. CheersNice, a Black Widow and a Glenn OTL. I thought Craig was doing two runs of Black Widows only?
