Audio-gd Compass (you'll find some in the for sale forums probably, not on Audio-gd website anymore from what I saw)

What's a good desktop amp/dac that I can get to go from my laptop to a pair of sennheiser 650's? I want to get a set soon, and want to properly power it. I'm looking for a mid-range model, hoping to not spend a ton, but also don't want to get such a great set of headphones and end up feeling like they're underpowered. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm really confused, because the last few days I've plugged my HD650 into my MacBook Air now and again, and I'm realizing it actually sounds really good.

What's even more confusing is it sounds LESS veiled from my MBA than on my NFB12. Is my NFB12 broken or something, or is my MBA just really good? O.o

The NFB-12 does roll-off the treble a little bit on top of its already warmer sound signature.  I'm guessing your MB probably has a flatter, more neutral sound signature?

I'm pleased with my Matrix Mini-i.  Had the E7/E9 combo and sold it.  Next step is to add a Schiit Lyr and use the Matrix as a DAC to feed the Schiit.  On it's own, the Matrix is nice and opens up possibilities for a better amp,

I absolutely love my Sennheisner HD650s. They're what I listen to the most & what's usually plugged into my amp, see.

Yeah that's pretty much it, I think. It's surprising actually how noticeably dark the NFB12 was, I had thought it was supposed to be neutral. The HD650 definitely sounds better on a neutral or bright amp though IMO, which is why I end up EQ boosting the treble when using my NFB12 -> HD650.

On the bright side (um I mean dark side) at least the NFB12 being dark might make it an okay for for the HD800 (although obviously not do it justice quality-wise).

Digging your setup. I used the Microstack for quite a while with my 650 and loved it. What are you using as your headphone stand? Looks pretty nice.

O.o

That's probably the last place I'd have expected an HD650 to be spotted in a video.

I got my HD650s during Thanksgiving last year for only $329 new from a recognized retailer. I can't believe how much these have gone up in price since then. I was anxious about coughing up the cash then, but now I don't regret it a bit

. Also, lol x2 on above comment.

Good to see there's more users of the Headroom Micro Amp/stack. I switched from the Asgard to that for my HD-650 and haven't regretted it one bit.
Somehow the Micro Amp also plays well with the Q701 AND the HD-650. Seems this isn't as common as it should be (in my experience).

Sometime I'll need to try out the Micro DAC and compare it to my HRT Music Streamer II. Headroom stuff costs a little more, but I've found it to be worth it.

I was a little hesitant on the micro stack at first since there was so little mention of them on Head-Fi, although after I bought them I was very glad I did. They're aesthetically pleasing, take up very little desk space & sound great with the 650s!

I went for the bundle pack that included the Amp, Dac, some cables & HD650s together, so I thought that was a great price.
