Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

A 25£ price cable makes big difference to me I cannot imagine what a 100$ can do. (Admittedly this price before the crasy boom in commodities prices and the current state of inflation...maybe 100 is what is needed now ...:) )
$100 was just a random amount that I threw out to illustrate the point that, imho, you don’t need to spend $500. I am not suggesting in any way shape or form that $100 is either a ceiling or a floor, merely that I believe it to be a ‘reasonable’ amount to spend for a cable that can improve upon oem.

I know cables are a dangerous subject around here, so I try hard not to overstate the point, and I apologize for broaching the subject in the first place.

Burson Conductor SL160D has the pcm 1793 dac which cannot be excluded, sounds good with hd 650, should I spend 350 euros for the burson?
I don’t think that SL 160D is a correct designation, but I could be wrong. Usually, Burson would call a Conductor SL an ‘HA-160DS’. Maybe the designations are different in the European market? It’s a great unit with a very nice dac that should sound great with your 650’s, but preowned price/value all depends upon condition - and that you’d have to judge for yourself. I got my OG HA-160DS in pristine condition with original packing, etc., for under US$300, but again, the one you’re looking at might be a newer model and, so, might be worth more money.

Good luck and enjoy!

has anyone tried the hd 650 with rupert neve?
I had the rnhp for a few months. Power rating isn’t very high, but actual power playing music into the headphones I had at the time was completely adequate. Sonically very balanced and neutral. Easily revealed personality differences among headphones. So all the Senns sounded like Senns. But it won’t add any sweetness. And I liked the understated cosmetics of it. Wonder why I sold it. Guess something else grabbed me.

Got a pair of new HD650 yesterday. Wow, very impressed so far with the sound quality. The only other open headphone I have to compare is the HD600. Having so much fun. Thanks all
A lot of audiophiles either forget or are unaware that the HD650 was Sennheiser’s flagship headphone at one point. Some still feel it is. I’ve owned an HD650 since 2005.

Hear, hear. I would argue that the HD 650 is the best dynamic headphone that Sennheiser has ever made.

I bought a Rod Rain Audio 1: 1 Clone Rupert Neve and a burson ha-160 for my latest model hd-650, what do you think?
May I suggest you use a manual or computer app EQ also in order to make subtle tonal adjustments. You’ll maximize your chances of getting the sound you’ve been looking for. That’s how I did it. Happy listening, good choices. Enjoy.

is the love for the HD650 or HD6XX stronger than the love for the 660S?
Sonically I've read the 6XX is identical sonically to the 650?

Yes to the second question. My sense of the community is: yes to the first question.

I would also consider the HD58X Jubilee, for a lower-cost alternative with less demanding amplification requirements but also less scaling-up potential.

In my case, definitely. I did not like the 660 S‘ overall sound. What I look for in my headphones, aside from midrange excellence, is, a rich/ full sound overall. I remember thinking “tin can” when I owned and listened to the 660 S. I can’t explain the reason for the “tin can” expression popping into my mind but that’s what my reaction was and what I remember. I sold them a couple of months or so after buying them and haven’t looked back.
