The only headphone every audiophile should own at least once throughout their journey.
Happily, it was a statement very similar to this one that convinced me to get the HD 650 ten-ish years ago.

It's been almost 20 years since its debut (2003 i think?) and the product line is still kicking strong.

Isn't that crazy? Nowadays you see so many unmemorable headphones that show up one day and flood the market w/ undue hype just to disappear the next day.

HD650 is a classic and a legend.

It was done right from the beginning - the HD 650 is a true classic.

I tried the 650 about 4 years ago, with a Schiit stack. They weren't the best combo for me at the time (the stack created some really ear piercing highs). I managed to get a great deal on ebay for a used pair last week. Just spent the last hour using them with my Darkvoice (pre-amped with a Jotunheim). These are superb!

In the past six months I've owned the HD660s and HD600. The HD650 are easily the best of the three to me. The other two were sold on within a few months of buying them, these are staying in the collection for as long as they live.

Yes, 2003. I bought my first pair of 650’s in Nov, 2003. They are still always at or near the top of my list after owning many, many $1000.00-$2000.00 headphones. If natural timbre is your thing, not many do it better.

I can still remember the day I got them. It was announced they would be coming soon and while at work I got an email from Music Direct saying they were in stock. I immediately called to order a pair and got on the train to go pick them up. Loved the sound the instant I got them home. I had been using the HD600 for a few years and thought the 650 was a nice improvement. Pretty sure my amp was the Headroom Max.

I can't imagine the hd650 or hd6xx ever having piercing highs, no matter what amp is driving them.

I also owned all the 6 and 5 series , to me 6 series are amazing and 650 the smoother of them , but if i had to choose 660s is better headphone to me.
