I love listening to this kind of stuff with my HD650 > Mad Ear+HD
For Joe's stuff that has horns and keyboards and piano and harmonica......you know....bigger band sounds....then I prefer the HD800....but it still sounds wonderful on the HD650....it does electric guitar very well IMHO.

Thanks Connieflyer, I have been looking at this Website today and will get an Ember or Solstice. But delivery time is an issue (I'm in Australia), so I'm tossing up between E12, Aune B1, TA-01 or JDS Labs The Element all of which I can pick up locally. Decisions, decisions...

The wait for the Ember or Solstice is worth it. I have the Ember and got a Aune T1 for my friend and there is a noticeable difference between the two. The Ember is so flexible, it will drive high Z headphones like HD-650 and will also work great with planars which very few amps can do.

Yeah, better to save some momey and wait for something suitable, unless you just aren't that type lol.
The Ember is well-loved here, and very flexible as DavidA says.

Something good is always worth waiting for, if you get something local just to save wait time, you will always wonder if you should have waited. The Ember is a great little amp, versatile, and nice looking. Remember, I have 71 years of experience, making the wrong choice and having to re-purchase too many times, old age gives you hind sight, and I can look a very lonnnnnnggg way back!

I considered an Ember, and finally decided on a Polaris. (I may still get an Ember down the road!). It was a hard decision. I agree, that a longer wait is likely worth an Ember. At its price point, I can't imagine a more feature-loaded tube HP amp.

agree to almost everything you mentioned, but my picky would be if only the cable be shorter, but that's just me cause my table is small and the cables are too long for me, aftermarket cable for me would be just for shorter length and no other hanky panky stuff

Not that slow, i think its a myth like some others i refered. But if you have chance to listen to it as a trial, listen first. Or use a 30 day money back garantie seller. Its not only about speed.

I know i gonna like it, because i liked hd598 besides bass. Now i just want smooooth cans with full, natural mids and tamed highs with SLIGHTLY less bass than my dt990. I know that 650 suit my preferences and maybe after few or three years later i buy great desktop amp for it. You say its not super slow then its all good for me.Not that slow, i think its a myth like some others i refered. But if you have chance to listen to it as a trial, listen first. With great source ->dac->amp, it won't sound slow. It's about right amping and low end control.

+1
In fact, the only time I think the HD 650 steps out of it's comfort zone is with large scale orchestral music which demands a huge sound-stage.
