I am in the "I love RS1" camp

Haha, I just meant that the M50s and Grados are veerrrry different. Like, they sound NOTHING alike. The M50s are warm and bassy with that V shape, Grados are treble treble treble. If you like the M50s, stay the hell away from Grados.

I don't know about other Grados, but the RS1i are not only about treble. I mean yes they have plenty, but it's the boosted mid range that makes electric guitars / vocals come so far forward. No they do not have strong bass, I'm not sure they're meant to.

The only Grado's I ever had the 'pleasure' of listening to must have been on my head for 30 seconds at most. Never again! Truly awful.

Which is why I'm in this thread. The HD 650 thread.

You know, what i really love about the 650s is how smooth they are. I can crank up the volume to 60% max, with soft rock or string quartets, and I hear NO graininess on them. I don't think I've ever heard that on any HP I've tried. Not sure what the engies at Senn did, but man....kudos to them.

I think ZorroFox's point is taken  Bear with us - we're slowly working around to why the 650 just works

Definitely a strong point. It's something that drives me nuts about the HE-400's and, to a lesser extent, the AKG-701's.

Alright people....convince me. If I were to get smaller sennheisers, I feel like I'd lean HD600 before 650's. Why should I go 650?

Hang on - there's a thread about it - let me find the link

If you like Grados... you wouldn't. The 650 will be too warm and delicious.

The 650 isn't as cold and analytical as the 600, which is why I got the 650, the velvety bass allows you to up the volume on heavy music without it sounding shrill.

Yes, I suspect you're correct. I likely already have the two I'd want if I bought them again (HD598/800).

I'll audition them someday.
