Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Guys. I was wrong. Very wrong.

I thought the HD650 could not possibly scale higher and sound better than what it already did through my NAD M51 > Mjolnir chain.

My Ragnarok arrived today. I'm listening to the HD650. This is stupid good. Wow.

Hey,

A little bit off topic. I'm still doubting about which headphones I would like the best and would fit the music I listen (mostly electronic, drum & bass, trance etc.) to the most. It's either senn HD650, HD600, beyer DT990 or DT880 (or something else that you might suggest and is a fairly popular set of cans so that it's easy to find used)...so I need your opinions. I would also consider the HiFiMan HE-400 or the HE-400i but I can't find them used (for a good price) in my country.

Thanks in advance for answers.

Philips X1 or X2, build a SennGrado, MDR-1A, Momentum over-ear, V Moda M100 to name a few that might work for you

I love to hear that! This is good news for two companies, Sennheiser and Schiit.

And bad news for everyone's wallet when you realize you have to spend 6 times the amount you spent on your headphones on your amp to drive it to it's potential.

Then you realize there's another amp out there that costs double that.....

Guys, seriously there are lots of amps between the Magni and the Ragnarok. I mean it is nice to know that the HD650 is Ragnarok-ready. That's all. I won't buy the Rag. Got me a used Meier Opera, that's all.

I have a Vali, Mjolnir and now the Ragnarok.

The HD650 sounds great from the Vali. You don't need to step up to the big boy amps to love the music coming from this headphone.

The Ragnarok is for my HD800. It's just a bonus and a nice surprise that the HD650 is able to scale up further than what I'd expected. I certainly wouldn't push the agenda that the HD650 requires mega buck components to unlock its potential.

I'm going to try and jump on board the first run of the Cavalli Liquid Carbon, so I'm not pushing an agenda of $2k amp are needed either.  But until proven otherwise, I'm running with the opinion that the HD650 scales to infinity....

My jaw dropped listening to my HD650 on the GSX Mk2, Cavalli Liquid Glass and Woo WA5 and WA22.  All were spectacular experiences, and all were with a headphone that can be had for under $300 when a deal can be caught...

My extended 2hr audition of the McIntosh amp with various cans did not leave me thinking I HAD to buy an Audeze after listening to/thru? a whole bunch of them, followed by the HD650. As a matter of fact I was left questioning "which one" more after following them with the hd650 than before it, as none tic'ed every box of 'pleasing' like the HD650 does to me. Not to imply superiority, just pleasing in a live with it every day all day sense.

Thakns. Only thing is I couldn't find the fidelio and I don't want any closed cans (already have a closed set). So only open back. And I still don't know which ones of the one I listed in my post, but suggestions are still welcome.

Glad that the Rag is working for you. Have you owned the 650 and BHC together?

Get yourself a HD650. It can do all genres I came across so far and it grants you long listening sessions without any fatigue. Why not the HD600? Because they are quite similar, but I like the whole finish including the colour and the cable of the HD650 more.
Cheers
Piet
