they imported from HK for RM14xx, but then RM1080 for a HD650 with 1.5 years US warranty aint that shabby too,

TBH even at over $500 these are a great choice. I would 100% argue that unless you're someone for whom dropping $1500 on a setup isn't a budgetary concern you probably can't top the 650s with a good amp. Even if you scrounge up the money for summit-fi stuff, if you're at all regretful for spending as much money as you did then you won't be able to enjoy it as much as if you spent a more "sensible" amount.
You'll find a LOT of people who went from $1000+ cans to the HD650, myself included.
Me too ! Sold HD800s to buy these and I prefer HD650 by far. HD600 were my first pair but i sold them because of 3-4khz peak and poor subbass . I find HD650 to be better.X2 is a great and fun hp but treble was fatiguing sometimes because it stimulated my tinnitus. HD650 are the most detailed headphones I have ever had, because treble has no fatiguing peaks but is present and extended and you can focus better on everything. HD800s detail was a bit fake. Their peak covered all subtle details. HD650 are the best headphones I have owned up to now.

That's a pretty good price, especially if they were used lightly.

In my opinion, the HD650 and X2 are neck and neck, but for different reasons.
The X2 doesn't quite have the easy organic mids, and natural tone of the 650's, and the treble is less peaky on the 650.
The treble is very extended on the 650, but somewhat subdued.
On the other hand, the 650 can't quite match the X2's soundstaging, sub bass, dynamics, or ease of drive.
I love both of them, and both are my go to headphones, depending on which recording I'm listening to, or what mood I am in.

I'm really curious to hear the X2. I know Tyll says how they're an upgrade but it seems like others are calling it a fairly minor sonic update and TBH the X1/HD650 race isn't close. Now I need to hear for myself.

It's not an upgrade but rather a different presentation.
IMHO the HD650 is an upgrade to the X2. I tried both before deciding on each to keep, and the HD650 was better by a large margin. The X2 has a better sub-bass, in fact, I never thought that an open-back headphone could get that much of bass and sub-bass, but the mids and treble makes the HD650 the clear winner. By far. X2 sounds like a headphone, when you listen to it, you know that the music is coming from the cans. HD650 is so natural that you look all over the place looking for the instruments. You can't stop listening to music with this Sennheiser gem.

What amp are you using for the 650's, if you don't mind me asking?

Sadly, a FiiO e10K amp+dac. It's recommended for impedances up to 150 Ohms, but the HD650 is a 300 Ohm headphone, so...
I bought a Bottlehead Crack + Speedball last week, but the estimate shipping for this amp is up to 6 weeks.
Six weeks?? That is very sad. You must have tremendous patience.

I am sure I'll get lots of answers to this question. How long does the HD650 take to burn-in, assuming you actually believe in such a thing. I am hoping it isn't too long.
