Hello, so I have an Asus Xonar D2X and am about to order Sennheiser HD 598 headphones, mostly for music and some gaming.  I'm wondering if I should purchase an amplifier for this setup, and if so, which amplifier would you guys recommend?

I am coming from a Soundblaster X-FI Titanium + HD 555 setup.  I'm sure I'll be able to hear a large improvement with just the headphone + sound card alone, but how much of an impact would an amplifier have?

Welcome to head-fi!

The uDAC-2 its a good choice. They are not that hard to drive.

Confused a little.  Aren't the DAC's on the D2X pretty good?   Wouldn't getting the udAC-2 just bypass the sound card completely?   I thought I'd go from the D2X to the amplifier to the headphones or am I wrong?

Yes, but It does have different functions, Dac/headphone amp.
uDAC is good for the price when paired with easy to drive headphones.
