I recently got a pair of the HD518 and I just love them..........
good sound, super comfy...........
only problem I think they have well not a problem is that the need an amp to really shine...........

Yes I agree. If you have any recommendations please post! I am looking for a good low cost amp. UPS dropped mine off today, and it is almost one in the morning, I refuse to take them off.

I would get something like a e11 if I was a bass head.....
What I use is not extravagant but sounds awesome...
It's a creative sound blaster digital music sx run by my samsung galaxy s3.....
I have iPods and sony xperia z but I like the s3 soundtge best.....
Mine is non us s3......

The FiiO E7 kicks butt with the HD518. It's also a DAC, so that's great.

all fiio products are awesome..........
I guess its just a matter of which sq is suited to him.......
The best combo i would think is the e17 and an added benefit to that is that it can be used with the e9 when as a desktop dac!!!

where did you buy the shorter sennheiser cable that you mentioned?
have been looking for a shorter cable with a 3.5 mm jack for my hd 518, but cant seem to find it

when doing this, you have to search for the HD598, not the HD518. The cable works with either.

Works fine for me???  But yeah it's the same for all the 5x8's
