Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

People buying up the stocks in case they’re discontinued?
They're not going anywhere
That would be out of stock though, wouldn't it? I've seen it with many products on Thomann. But now it's "no longer in their catalogue". Different situation, it would seem. Now, if it were still available on Sennheiser's site, I'd say maybe Thomann chose to carry just two models of the 6-series. But taking it all together... something might be up.
Nah. They're still being made, tested, and shipped. Unless Sennheiser is sold out, we cannot predict when a retailer will be out of stock (or, on the contrary, replenishing them) but most retailers have a good pulse on when they will be back in stock.

except for the price...
Just a word on pricing, not here to defend the new increases but not too sure for those having an issue with the price if they've recently stepped outside. As a shop owner I've seen supplies go up 40% if not more across the board over the last 2 years...just saying.

I didn’t mean to imply that they were. I just said that people might be buying up stocks in case they discontinued. Most people probably haven’t read your reassurances on this thread! 😉
No doubt, thx for your input along this threads journey 💪 I have to keep my foot on the gas a out the HD 600/650 not going anywhere or else the rumors start up all over again haha

Them's fightin' words. I'll order another HD 600 just out of spite. :)
To be fair I am not a long-standing HD 6xx fan like many people in the thread are. I leaned more towards Beyers, AKG’s with the occasional Senn early on. I think due to my audiophile journey centered more around Beyers and AKG’s caused me to look for different things in my sound than many who’s journey was centered more around Senns.

Our taste in audio evolves in parallel with the sonic changes in music. In popular music, for one example, MJ and Madonna were highly influential with ushering in a kick-drum driven sound. Their (and so many others) success gave them a path to squeeze more out of the recording and mixing process for "that sound" that was unmistakably theirs. Suddenly, everyone wants "that sound" and begin to demand fullness and punch. Then, you need the gear to experience it. The constant back and forth between the creatives and the engineers is great for pushing the boundaries. There is still so much room to explore, sonically.
That is very true, tastes changes, music changes, usage changes, etc. I shift favored genres all the time and I’m all over the place with what I like. I’m curious what direction things will take in the future. It’s interesting getting headphones from different musical eras and experiencing a different sort of sound.

Another review from Joshua Valour , he's again comparing them to hd650 not 660s I am mostly interested in direct comparison between hd660s ( which I own ) and the new 660s2 , hopefully we will get some more reviews soon ...

Great review IMHO. I’m glad I cancelled my order & was reimbursed. The 660S2’s sound tweaks, especially in the sub bass can be tweaked on my HD600 with EQ. Also, the HD600 and HD650 midrange is exactly what I look for in a HP, sound wise. Had the price been lower, especially here in Canada where audio items always cost more than in the US, I may have taken a chance with them. At the asking price, in Canada, the HD660S2 doesn’t seem to offer to make me spend that amount of money. For those of you who have purchased a pair and are enjoying them, I’m genuinely happy for you because, a-) I’m repeating myself but it is a lot of money for an HP of this series, &, b-) we all have different preferences in what we want out of a HP especially sound wise. 👍

I agree. I just checked Thomann as well. I think they may have misunderstood what's happening. They may have heard/been informed that one of the 6 series would be discontinued and assumed that it must be the oldest in the line-up instead of the one before the latest. That would explain why they have removed the 600 but not the 660S....... They have the 650 660S and 660S2.

The HD600 is still on Sennheiser's site.

IMO, the next upgrade from 600/650 would be NDH30 (non-wonky version) and then it's a small step to Utopia (in terms of technicals) in terms of dynamic cans.

For the majority of HD600/650 long term users, and you are a long term user for a reason the pro 600/650 views will save many from being disappointed and their pocket book.

Amen to that. :beerchug:

From my audition with the NDH30 there definitely was some familiar family traits, but more staging and bass...curious if you've had the 660S? The Neuman were on my short list (and maybe still are) after selling my Focal Elegia, although I have HD630VB I wasn't too sure about the form factor for their intended use and picked up my 3rd 660S instead, they were fine and then Sennheiser had to go and announce the new 6S. :sunglasses:

Never heard 660S. I like my bass and my gripe against Clear/Utopia was their insufficient sub bass. I got a lot more from NDH30, but nothing touches HE6se so far for me (let alone my Rel S812 [insert evil laugh])

Fostex Th900Mk2 eats all for bass even modded He6se from speaker taps..
I am not sure 20dB bass shelf is a fair comparison, but I get your point. :beerchug:

When sub bass is mentioned I think many confuse that with more bass instead of just widening the frequency window, sub bass will "silently" rattle the windows, not going to happen with headphones but every little bit helps.
for me (let alone my Rel S812 [insert evil laugh])
Thats a nice looking sub...always wondering what I'll replace my Velodyne DD with if it ever fails.
My brother has 3 Seaton SubMersives for his home theatre but that's not going to fly in an apartment.lol
