Different strokes for different folks.

I love this setup! Today I'm doing a lot of HD 800 and HD 660S2 comparisons using a very similar rig. S/N 265 for the 800. Pound for pound, IMHO, The 660S2 is damn close to the 800 in terms of detail, and surpasses it in terms of bass performance (and qty of course). The 800 and 660S2 soundstage are too different to really compare as it is an apples and oranges thing, not better or worse...the 660S2 is thicker than a snicker. The exercise has reminded me how good the 800 still is, but also how analytical it is...the 660S2 is the engaging, life of the party versus the 800 (the social interaction data scientist), and if you are the "get lost in the music" kind of listener, will probably love the S2's palette
I hope you get to hear it!

Well, it has to be said that I spend more time actually playing music, or sitting in front of my ATC's, than I do with headphones on my head. And..... the HD800's, although amazing (and I wouldn't part with them) have never been my favourite headphones. That accolade went first to the 580 Precisions and then the HD650's, and now recently the NDH 30's.All looks way too pristine to be owned by a musician. lol
That was my road to personal music enjoyment too! First HD-580 Precision, then HD-650 and now NDH 30. I’m not getting v2 since I don’t feel like messing with perfection. There’s nothing wrong with my 660s that I feel needs fixing. Plus, I like running them out of my iPhone frequently and yes I’ve tried amps and they sound exactly the same hahThese may have a different sound signature than the original, but my 660's are very, very good.. Different isn't always better, in fact can be the opposite. It's good to know Sennheiser is always tweaking this and that.,![]()
The jury is still out on my HD800S, I have a love/hate relationship with mine. Sometimes I’m drooling behind my desk, completely enveloped by lovely music and sometimes my ears want to fall off my head because of the treble.![]()
I have a love hate with them too. I will say this, that headphone is one of the most difficult to amp, from a synergy standpoint. I hated the 800 on solid state, but enjoy them on tubes quite a bit.The jury is still out on my HD800S, I have a love/hate relationship with mine. Wait, does this mean the 660s2 replaces the 660s and now the 660s is discontinued??
Noooooo
Don't know since the 660s2 is a tweaked 650 (300 ohm), which is a lesser 600, which is a tweaked 580...
Man, I'm getting a head ache!!!!
Where's the Rum.....
Origins 660s may stick around....
Don't know how long the 660s2 can maintain the $600 price tag.. When it drops, it might compliment my 660s.The Senn rep ericpanolen said the 660S2 would replace the 660S.
