Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

Tonight I'm going to test further using my Bifrost 2 (OG) and Quicksilver headamp and have tubes come into the equation. If anything, I heard the Senn 6X0 series gets even better on the tubes, so I expect them to pull away from the DT1990 even further.
Fasten the ear belts … it will be good! 🤣 Both 6XX and 660S2 will definitely respond !

Overall I'm very happy with the S2 thus far! I think it's better than the 6XX, but only a bit better.
Thanks for sharing....
YMMV...but I believe from your initial impressions that after you've had the S2 for a bit and got familiar with their technecalities you may find the S2 may pull even farther ahead.

I could easily see this and it's the other reason I would rather keep the S2. I did not get enough time to listen to a lot more music, but I noticed more excitement and details so I figured with repeat listens there's more potential with the S2. This is why I'm ok with keeping them for the much higher cost than the 6XX; I think there's something more there and I might just not have found it yet.

Really the goal was to replace the DT1990 for a daily driver and I think either Senn HP will do that, so now I'm trying to be really sure the S2 is worth the cost and thus far it has been :) !

… and the technical strengths of S2 exist not for themselves but to bring you to 🎼🥲🎶.

I just play with the new HD660s2 with my shangling M6 gen 1 for few days. I listen to mostly female vocal such as Lana Del Rey, Lorde, etc (Don't judge :)).
So far the sounds is clean. But not sure it is my imagination, it sounds like the singer is singing very near and just beside my ears. Also it kind of a tad missing some "sweetness" in the femal vocal. Not sure how to describe it, but my JVC HA-FW01 sounds more "sweet" :)

Questions:
1. Any EQ app or EQ settings that recommend for female vocal? Currently using Hiby app.
2. I am wondering is it because my shangling M6 is not able to power it. So thinking of another DAP. currently looking at Sony ZX-707 (Japan Version), Hiby R6 Pro II or FIIO M15s. What do you guy thinks of these DAPs? will it change the tonality of HD660s2? Any other DAP recommended (may be ibasson or some sort), budget below 1.5K?

Thanks.
Have you spent more time with your M6 Pro? I also have the 1st generation, and I'm considering the 660s2. Do you feel like the M6 Pro doesn't have enough power to push the 660s2? What volume number are you at, and are you using it balanced?

Mine is Shanling M6 (2020). Listening volume is around 47 and using balnace. Currently Equalizer using Dance and MSEB using Analog. Still exploring to fine tune to find the audio "sweetness" that i desire, the quest still continue.... :)

I'm ass that at 47 volume steps, you're listening at a relatively low volume? Using my Kennerton Vali Neoteric, I typically listen in the 60s, and the S2 has to be harder to drive than my Kennerton.

I mostly listening to female vocal.
Here are my latest settings:
0. Volume: 47 - 51 [sample]
1. Gain: Low
2. Equalizer: OFF
3: Lowpass filter mode: Sharp Roll off filter
4. MSEB as photo

Hey all,

Really loving my S2! Likely returning the 6XX and selling the DT1990 now. Question though...

Thinking of getting some ZMF pads and a Crescent strap headband. I love the crescent strap on my ZMF headphones, so I likely will grab this, but to save on shipping I'm thinking of trying the ZMF pads. Probably perf leather to swap up from the stock pads.

Any information out there on these with the 660S2? DMS has a review with the 6XX and it appears to keep very similar sound, especially with the suede. They are pricey though...$70 is a lot for these pads...

It seems like the 660S2 is more similar to the HD650 than a bassier version of 660s. I like my 660S a lot more than my previous HD650, which I find the sound too slow and warm for modern music.

Looks like someone else from an earlier post tried the ZMF pads with the S2 and didn't like it. Granted, the replies said that perforated ZMF pads might be better than the solid ones.

Boy does that Crescent strap look ugly. The headband of the HD660S2 is so comfortable for hours, I myself do not feel the need to put anything there.

Yeah not a huge fan of the look, but it feels awesome! I have it on my Verite and Atrium and it's easily my favorite! Granted, it looks much better on those than the make shift one for other headphones, but I was going for comfort.

I might just need to use my S2 for a while and break it in.

I use the ZMF Crescent Snap (leather) headpads on my HD700 since the original headpad deteriorated and Sennheiser doesn't sell the HD700 headbands (or any parts) anymore.

Really nice headband/headpad. It's high quality and well-made like all ZMF products. Comfortable too. Doesn't look bad in my opinion.

As for earpads, just don't get the solid lambskin unless you want lots more bass, like I've said before. Other materials might not change the 660S2's sound signature/frequency too much. I don't know. Wish ZMF offered exchanges or returns on their pads, but they don't. You better do your research and pray their pads work for you, or you're screwed and stuck with them.
