Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

I see a lot of posts about 660S2 vs NDH-30 headphones. Can you possibly provide a link or similar, where these two headphones are compared very correctly, how they compare to each other, in terms of tonality and technical knowledge?
Just do a search in this thread. It is overrun with NDH-30 facts, opinions and comparisons. Probably about 25% of this thread should be cut and pasted into the NDH-30 thread.

Yep...haven't bought any vinyl in decades but to replace the 1000 plus or so I have from the 70s and 80s.....forget it.
But not just on Amazon, visited one of the local record shops the other day...way above my pay grade. lol
Anyway it would take another lifetime to just listen to what I already have on hand.
Agree , not worth it , it does help if you kept them in good nick. Most off my collection is in good nick, so don't need to replace. But I have tended to buy a few again but on cd. Then I stick them onto laptop then onto sd cards for my mp3 audio players. But always on the look out for good priced Lp / cd. Had a couple of cds arrive tonight from , Tom Scott . 3 Lp on each double cd set. And it's Record Store Day tomorrow.

Just curious, did you ever have the 660S?

I did briefly, but didn't keep it long as it didn't do a ton for me, and I didn't find it to improve any areas I wanted with the 6X0 series. I had the 600 and 650 at the time, along with a couple ZMF's.

Actually, apart from initial comparisons I haven’t listened to the 660S since getting the NDH 30, and I’ve only listened to the 650 once. I’m more curious about the comparison again being made between the S2 and the 650 when I and many others had already decided that the 660S was an improvement on the 650, however slight.

If you've only listened to the 650 once, I'm not sure how you could really come to that conclusion?

Either way, I do feel like the S2 has more to do with the 600 as a base vs the 650. I can't comment on the S2 vs 660S, if only because I don't have anywhere near the head time with them (660S) and haven't listened to them in several years now. If the 650 isn't your thing, you may find more to like in the S2. If the 6X0 line doesn't knock your socks off, I'm not sure.

Yes, I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear. I’m probably relying on people having read previous posts of mine. I have two 650’s which I’ve had for years and years. It was my absolutely favourite headphone (above my HD580 Precision, HD600 and HD800). I struggled massively when the 660S came along (as anyone who was involved in the HD660S thread 3 to 4 years ago will remember!), but I eventually came to think that, overall, it was the better headphone.

The NDH 30 has ended all dilemmas I had about the six series. I won’t add any further comments about how they compare here - enough has already been said on this thread, and the NDH 30 thread gives plenty of testimony to how good they actually are. I still like and enjoy the sixes for what they are, but like I said, ‘apart from initial comparisons I haven’t listened to the 660S since getting the NDH 30, and I’ve only listened to the 650 once.’

However, I’m still curious as to how the S2 fits in and compares to the rest of the six family, hence my question.

For those curious (and there has been a few questions in this regard) I have both the HD600 and the 660s2. I initially saw the 660s2 as an "upgrade" from the 600. My listening habits tend to be that I use both the 600 and 660s2 plugged straight into a MacBook Air M2 ( in the bedroom and living room) and then via a Fiio K7 (spare room/study). Very surprised just how good the M2 Air Dac/Amp is for "easy" listening and (with a Custom Cables 3.5mm cable) its a decent combination. Using a balanced cable via the Fiio K7 brings out more (obviously) and you can go very loud with both headphones.

My music tends to be rock/pop and includes bands such as Microdisney, Felt, XTC and Steely Dan. The occasional Todd Rundgren. All via Apple Music lossless or hi res lossless.

I have swayed backwards and forwards with both headphones and both setups and I honestly prefer the 600 over the 660s2. I didn't expect to. I assumed the 660s2 would just bring out "more" detail/soundstage. It is probably me (and the music I listen to) but the 600 has a clear edge in my mind (and in my head). It isn't even close. The 660s2 almost seems "muddy" in comparison.

As I say it is probably a case of me being used to the 600 sound and expecting too much of the 660s2. I have previously had the 58x, the 599SE and the 650. Couldn't get on with the 650 either. This isn't to put people off the 660s2, it is just my own personal experience. Fit and finish of the 660s2 is perfect, no issues at all.

I'll be offloading the 660s2 via eBay and then I'll pick up a "spare" HD600 just to ensure I have continuity and before the prices of the 600 rise again.

Just got the HD 660S2 in, only have a few minutes of listening in. First thing I noticed is the smoother, clearer, more effortless, and more refined sound and deeper reaching bass. I’ll have to listen to a greater variety of tracks and uses to get a proper handle of the sound. I’ll give proper impressions in a few days time.

Thank you. Honestly what I was looking forward most on the HD 660S2 over the HD 660S wasn't actually the increased bass extension, but it does fill in some missing information. But what I was truly hoping for is improved effortlessness, resolution, etc. The HD 660S has one of my favorite tunings of any headphone, but I always felt it needed a bit more on the driver fidelity front as the original HD 660S feels a tad constrained sounding. So far the I think the S2 accomplishes that. But need see how I feel after they break in and I adjust to the sound.

does anyone have both 660s2 and ndh30? I would be technically interested in the differences. space, stage, imaging, transparency, resolution. I can decide between them very quickly... one day I want to put one in the basket, the next day the other.

660S2 is inferior in all aspects.
