Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Aug 3, 2014 at 11:20 PM Post #3,841 of 7,535
So I just went home today to discover that someone had been messing around with my HD598s and got an ink stain on the headband foam.

It's bothering me so much I tried to remove the stain with alcohol, soap, vinegar, nail polish remover and everything else but I still can't get it off. I guess I'll have to let it go since I've tried everything I have at home already to no avail, but would you guys happen to know if Sennheiser sells a replacement headband foam/padding? Maybe I'll replace it next time for when the foam starts flattening out.

Just got my Sennheiser Hd 598
biggrin.gif

Sounds pretty good, this is my first "good" heaphone, been living off buds for years.
Will an amp or sound card greatly improve these cans?
I'm currently running these on my pcs onboard sound and my ipad.
just wondering, is there anyone from Brunei here?

My experience is that a DAC & AMP improves things a lot from my PC and only a little from my iPad. I have an iPad mini (non-retina) and it sounds pretty good all by itself. My PC sounds like crap.

Hey guys,

So as I posted sometime back, my pair of HD 598 fell by accident (they were connected to my phone which vibrated when I received a text) onto the carpet. My carpet is soft and the fall wasn't that steep but afterwards when I went to listen to some music, I had to lower the volume settings in Foobar 2000.

I found this strange especially since my regular volume setting on the laptop itself was the same and I listen with the HD 598 directly plugged in to my laptop with no external amp or DAC. I'm a bit worried that the drivers might have been damaged since I know they're a bit sensitive and rattle a bit before settling in.

Right now, I've decided that I want to get a replacement for the HD 598's but I'm not sure if I can. I've looked around on their website and I'd appreciate some help. Even though it's been a few months since I've had them, can I still get a replacement pair? If so, do I just have to pay the shipping fee to send it to them or do I pay the shipping fee both ways or do I even pay at all?

Note that I did buy from an authorized dealer and I've only had them for about six months, so the warranty still stands. Hopefully one of you or someone from Sennheiser can help since I can't even find their customer service e-mail address.

Best regards,
Garraty

Thanks- but does anyone have any experience with Sennheiser customer service regarding the questions I asked? (shipping and replacing headphones)

Check out some binaural material, some acoustic music, some modern dance, some jazz, and some metal... and maybe some gaming. That'll give you the run!

I went to the local electronics store with my friend to pick up his new TV. Somehow I bought HD 598's without testing them first. I have listened to few Lalo Schifrin / Ennio Morricone soundtracks and Grandmaster Flash, and I can already tell these are easily the best cans I have ever owned.

I haven't tested them with a mobile device yet, but Tubemagic D1+ runs them really well.

Fantastic! Glad you are enjoying them so much, and have a positive first impression. Happy listening!

I don't know if this is like... the appropriate way to make my first post because I'm unsure an appreciation thread would deal with this.

I bought a pair of HD 598's off of a site that claims to be located in Denver Colorado named A'Brice'Designs (long story short the original name before it was A Demarco Designs a legitimate Denver located Jeweler shop that was hijacked by unknown criminals and the original owner is working with the Denver police, which has resulted in their name change to Brice, so never shop there please) well they shipped me in a pair of chinese knock-offs.  They are very, very inconsistent in quality and I even contacted Sennheiser and they helped me identify that it was indeed a fake.

I'm sort of nervous now because any headphone I want to get is not located in Dayton, Ohio locally so I can buy/return the product if I need to.  I've used the Sennheiser site and it's still very difficult to find a trust worthy source on buying a legitimate HD 598.  I know Amazon sells them, but I've heard they can either be legit, or fake even directly from Amazon.  So where can I buy guaranteed legit Sennheisers?

There is a button "Find a dealer" on the side. These shops are guaranteed to sell legit pairs

I've got my own question though, is Schiit stack (Modi+Magni) going to pair up well with 598's? I've heard m+m works best with the likes of 600 and 650 and not 598. What do You guys think
