Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread

Well , it was recorded at a reasonable volume , it wasn't crazy loud ...it was recorded on a iPad so the there is no extra peaking
None of my headphones go through this at this volume , except the HE-300 ...also this was a replacement pair , the earlier one also had the same issue , can't be a coincidence that both of them are defective

Or it's your ipod?

I am using a Xonar Essence STX , which has a OI of 10Ohms , so I'm still within the range of good damping , I am certain its the driver .I ran test tones , bass heavy stuff , bass light stuff  also compared them to all my headphones , even the cheap $10 CX-180.... they left me with a very poor result

This dude on Amazon has a similar issue - http://www.amazon.com/review/R2PO847U6RIRLK/ref=cm_cr_pr_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0042A8CW2#wasThisHelpful

It is a long time since I sent in a suggestion for equalizing the Hd598 in Foobar 2000. Well now I have joined the boom and tizz brigade and bumped up the bass a bit and added some sparkle to compensate my top end hearing loss. I think that the  bump at 1-2kHz helps with the 'veil'.
The eq is probably a bit strong for classical stuff but it certainly brings my HD 598s to life. Sorry I cannot upload the .xgeq file but you get the idea.

That eq curve looks pretty close to the curve I use at home, the characteristics of the curve are the same though some parts are little different due to the setup and genre of songs we listen to.

How much better are the 598 compared to the 558's?

It's better by exactly 12 (maybe 11.5) Audiophile Enjoyment Points (AEP).

Cheers,
K

Depends if you like peanuts, which I do, so to me there is no question which is better. I'd say 2:1 in favor of snickers due to flavor and texture.
