Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread

Hey all.

I'm looking to get those headphones, and pair them up with my Soundblaster Z. Is this combination a good choice for gaming and music (jazz, fusion and rock mostly)?
Also, would HD598 be a noticeable improvement over Superlux 668B?

Hi!

I have both the Superlux and the HD598. Yes, noticeable difference. The HD598 plays in a different league. For gaming it's phenomenal the spatial awareness with this headphone is amazing. For anything Jazz etc, this is the headphone to get as well. Doesn't have the fullest of base but any instrument has it's place and beautiful sound.

The 668b is great for its price easily beating higher priced cans, but the HD598 is wor every penny of its price.

Thanks for your reply!
So, would you say that the switch to HD598 is worth the price? Also, how would you compare the bas of 668B to the HD598? I've never used open headphones before, and 668B are semi-open, so I'm wondering about the bas.

Juz a heads up for fellow canadians who want to grab a pair now. Amazon.ca has it on black friday deal for $150!!! cant beat this price!!

I just ordered one from Amazon as well.

My computer has Xonar DG, should I invest in better Sound card or DAC/AMP?
If yes, please recommend affordable ones. I do use my laptop a lot as well.
I will start reading this thread slowly but it's 200 pages long!

Honestly, I think the DG and the HD598 is a good pairing. I'm happy enough with the performance that I can just relax and listen. Speaking only for myself, I wouldn't upgrade until I get a better phone.

Hello! I've currently own a pair of AKG K550s and have been pretty happy with them for music. Lately though, I've been doing some heavy gaming with the headphones and the spatial awareness that I get from my 5.1 surround sound system is no where near the same with the headphones. Which is to be expected... still, I was looking to get something high quality that can basically replace my K550s. Are the 598s superior to the K550s in terms of sound? I'm sure that since they are open, that the sound stage will be way bigger than the k550s. Which is my main concern, but would like to have a HP that it's at least on par with the sound quality of the K550s.

What do you mean by "better cable"? Many people have bought a standard 3.5mm jack cable for HD598 from ebay and they are happy with it.
It's a Sennheiser proprietary 2.5mm locking connection at the headphone end, but recently a Chinese supplier has been advertising compatible cables of good quality and a decent price on eBay. Search for HD598 cable.

Just got mine.

So comfortable!
So open! (I have underestimated how much sound leaks lol)
I know some people hate the color but I like it.
The connector is indeed huge.
I may invest on a stand and a custom cable.

Enough Sennheiser headphones for now. I bought HD 598, Momentum and PX 250 II in less than a year.
Maybe Bayerdynamic/AKG/Audio Techtica next.
