what’s your credential and past hifi experience? what other hi end gear have you owned in the past?
could you give some brief view as to some of the popular cans so we know your taste and preferences, including 600, 650, 800, 660S/S2, Clear, Utopia, HEK, LCD-2/3/4/X, etc.
I normally use HD580 (Black Silk, Brass Ring, QC Stripe) and HD800 (SDR Mod) with EQ. I have tested countless other stuff including the ones you have listedwhat’s your credential and past hifi experience? what other hi end gear have you owned in the past?

That doesn't matter 4 me - HD490 pro will stay a hazy and foggy sounding HP without any grip. no one has to know utopias to hear thatwhat’s your credential and past hifi experience? what other hi end gear have you owned in the past?

I actually liked your review quite a lot, thanks for that and the measurements!
For me the problem with HD600 is the difference in bass between the 100 Hz and about 50 Hz regions. It just makes double bass drum for example loose too much punch. At the same time the eargain region so pronounced that I personally think it is a bit too much for longer listening and fatigues pretty fast. Have to admit that I listened to I think in 2020 for the last time - maybe could give it another try.
I think that the HD 490 Pro with mixing pads balances a bit less ear gain with deeper/linear bass pretty well but I will try some EQ to see if the glass gets cleaner that way:

Could you also give a brief description of 800 (SDR) so we have a frame of reference when you talk about other cans.

Does the extra headband pad that comes with the pro plus makes a difference in comfort? Is the pro without it comfortable enough?

Has anyone compared these to the Edition XS? Which is better (what do each do better than the other)?

Hope you had time with it on an OTL amp - pretty ascorbic on most SS.See this is good information for me.
I returned an 800S. It was a very expensive waste. I see it as a one trick pony with the staging that makes people willing to overlook the faults. I also felt like I was in the nose bleed seats at a stadium while listening to absolutely everything and that just wouldn't do.

If I can't get it out of solid state I don't want it. Tubes are widely expensive for good ones and the amps are space heaters. Just never gonna happen for me. Others can do what they want. Those are my objections.
