Sennheiser debuts a bunch of new headphones at IFA

What I meant was, did the 400 series get revamped one year ago?  If so, then maybe they're on a schedule of revamping one series per year (which would gives us a revamped 600 series a year from now).

Just had a walk with my HD555 oldies to refresh impressions about them. I'm interested in the new HD569 closed back cans as portables. However I'm not convinced about new HD5XX possible build quality as the HD555 are made from cheap crackling plastics, besides their sound is not stellar either. Still thinking if they are worth a shot.

It will just Sound like the 598 . They never let anything near to their 6 Line .

Have you actually heard it?  If not - then your post is purely speculation.

Since I couldnt find anyting regarding the driver of these new HD 5x9 cans, I will assume for now that sennheiser didnt change anything from the previous HD 5x8 line of headphones and that they will basically sound the same. Even if there are changes made to the driver, they will never be on the HD 6xx level of fidelity. This is sennheiser after all, they know exactly what they are doing.

I did find there is a "big" difference in overall fidelity, going from the 5X8 to the 6X0's... I think it's nice that the 5 series is low impedance/easier to drive/generally doesn't require a crazy amping setup, whereas the 6 series definitely benefits from scaling up with gear.

It would be awesome to have a closed back that reaches the same level of fidelity, even if it used the higher impedance drivers.

While I'm very unlikely to get any of these new headphones for myself, I do always have friends looking for open and/or portable cans. Especially with open headphones, there's always something not quite right...
Sennheiser HD598, 558 and 518: the most agreeable overall sounds and comfort levels, but too expensive at local retail
Audio Technica AD_x series: fussy headband, no bass
AKG K612: impossible to drive on on-board / portable sound, splashy mids/highs makes it intolerable for long listening sessions
Beyerdynamic DT880 / DT990: sharp, close to piercing highs
And the list goes on and on and on...
So here's to hoping the HD599 will be more reasonably priced at MSRP than the HD598.
Eh, who am I kidding?
How about the Sony MDR MA900? There's little to dislike on this hidden gem
