Hello everyone. Newbie so kindly bear with me.  :)

understand CX 980 and PX 200-II are totally different types, but still hope you would share your opinions and experiences. which is better if i mainly listen to pop and rock? Are headphones always better then in-ears? or are in-ears at a higher price actually better than headphones at lower price points?  Thanks.

Welcome to Head-fi.org, raku!

With the CX 980, you can choose between a balanced (and precise sound) or bass-driven sound by simply switching the ear adapters. This makes it a good pair to listen to a wide variety of music. Also, the CX 980 comes with a wide variety of accessories. The PX 200-II, on the other hand, will provide a rich, lifelike sound reproduction.

But like you said, these 2 headphones are totally different types. It all boils down to the individual -  you will need to find out which wearing style suits you best. One person may find in-ears to be intrusive while another may not like on-ears for some other reason. It'll be better if you can find a dealer that allows you to audition these headphones first before making your decision.

Hope this helps!
