The hd595 is more comfortable to me than the hd650 as my ears don't feel tight with hd595 .

Hd650 has a different sound than the hd595 , technical wise ,of course hd650 is better. hd595 is much better than hd555 imo. To get the best sound from hd595 , you have to wear them properly.

Hd595 has a grado like sound with some politeness

I have to disagree here, it is possible. People have noticed a slight improvement in overall sound quality between the HD600 and HD580 ever since the HD600 was released nearly ten years ago. Such differences in sound quality have been discused for over three years on Head-Fi and and before that for years on Headwize. There's more to sound than just the driver and cable (ie the more porous metal screens of the HD600 vs the plastic ones of the HD580).

So a difference in a cover and about $80+. One thing would be if the difference would be $10 maybe even $20 in price. Then that would be ok because I will agree the 600's look much sexier, but with the price difference being so big and the actual cost of the cans not very high I don't see it worth it. 580's can be had for $120 shipped from ecost. On the other hand the cheapest you can get the 600's is $179.88 and that with $30 if you get approved for the credit card from amazon. It all goes down to what are people willing to spend.

But don't forget that the HD600s also come with their own sexy box.

But, yeah, you're right when it comes to the difference in price between the two the HD580 is, in many ways, the better value. But, then again, what's another $30 - $80 if you're already going to spend $120? Especially after you factor in the cost of a decent amp to power the HD580/600 which would be around $300, at least. I'd rather pay the extra cash and have the peace of mind that I'm getting the best of the old school Sennheiser sound (HD650 would be the new school, which I find not as pleasing) plus a box and some extra sexiness. I think you could make a good case for going with either the HD580 or HD600, just depends on what you want.

Another "$30 - $80"? You mean another $60-$80, right? Going by the lowest prices for both, that's how things seem to be going. Why not just bump that up to an HD650, or get an HD650 cable for the HD580, or spend that money on a slightly better source or amp?

It's not so much that $60+ is a huge amount with these headphones as that you might not even be getting anything tangible (save the box) for that $60. It is disputed whether or not there is a difference between the two in the first place, and spending $12 on HD600 grilles will eliminate ANY difference that could be between them.

I guess you COULD make a case for either, but the case for the HD600 is a lot harder to make. You're essentially spending at least $40-50 (price difference minus grille cost) for a fancy box and a faux marble finish.

Comfort is important but not as much as sound is to me.

To me, 595 are still that good.

580 are safe bet, while 650 will save you upgrade money in the long run.

Probably wouldnt matter now seeing how this thread is half a year old and DANO already has both the 650s and the 600s.

He's already a member of Team Senn!

For the most part I agree with you (except for the differences between the HD600 and stock HD580, which have been well documented for years)--HD580 is the better choice if you're going for the best sound-quality-for-the-buck ratio. But for some people the extra $60-80 may be worth it--especially those who don't want to bother with installing new grills on the HD580 (and who want the box and like the look of the HD600s). But, yeah, if I were in the same position I likely would have gone with a HD580 and the bought the HD600 grills--but fortunately for me a HD600 (with HD650 cable, no less) came up for ultra cheap (ie cheaper than a HD580, at the time) so I just went with that.

Also I'm going to apologize for making sweeping generalizations. Most people find the HD600 slightly superior to the HD580 but that doesn't mean everyone will. I've seen a few people who find the HD580 to sound more pleasing than the HD600 (mostly because their high end isn't as accentuated). In the end it comes down to what you like, regardless of how much it costs or where it is supposed to fall on the audio hierarchy. Hmmm....maybe I should try some HD580 grills on my HD600s, just to hear for myself. Never seen that before. Sounds like fun.
