Part of the issue is there is SO much electronic music out there, a million compilation albums and it's kind of hard to pick out the good from the mediocre stuff.

4 must-buy albums...

Boards Of Canada - A Beautiful Place In The Country
Autechre - Incunabula
Mouse On Mars - Rost Pocks (collection of early EPs, great intro).
B12 - Time Tourist

For more electronica in a similar vein than the above check out
Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By
Casino Vs. Japan - Whole Numbers Play The Basics

or even more minimal ambient stuff..
Susumu Yokota - The Boy And The Tree

Lustmord, Thomas Koner, Soma, Shinjuku Thief/Shinjuku Filth, Paul Schutze, Dead Voices on Air, Not Breathing are a couple that come to mind.

Also check out Chris Clark on Warp Records. He does some really crazy, beautiful, and complex work. Specifically his latest release, Empty The Bones Of You, is just amazing.

Aphex Twin is my favorite artist by far, Donkey Rhubarb probably being my favorite release, or I Care Because You Do.

OMG. I never thought someone on here would have listened to his newer album. I've listened
to that one, Empty The Bones Of You, for a while now and I just can't get over it. It's so wonderful!
I first gave it a listen in august, and every once in a while I come back to it and damn, it's such
a good album. He's crazy!

Btw, I backup everything said about Mouse on Mars, Boards of Canada and Autechre. They rock.

get selected ambient works vol II (aphex twin) much darker and WAY better than the first volume

i know music is a very subjective thing, and that's why i differ here. IMO, SAW vol. II is waaaaay too ambient. there's a few tracks that are great, but the rest is just an endless synthesizer playing the same melody (without a beat) for ten minutes per song.

try to find and listen to Luciana by Juno Reactor

Aphex Twin's "I Care Because You Do" is an awesome album as well. Especially the track "Alberto Balsalm." Check out his album "Window Licker" too. Track number 2 is really creative--even for him. Another really good one is "Surfing on Sinewaves" by Polygon Window which happens to be an alias for Aphex Twin.

For electronic music in the United States, try:

Forced Exposure
s://kimo (email him to ask what you want)
Amazon

Between these three you should be able to find all of the music discussed in this thread.
