Why would you ever use an iPad as a dap?

As bad as using it as your dedicated camera? Nothing looks more ridiculous than people swinging a 10" rectangle around for photos. Though I'm now stuck trying to figure out what kind of pocket you'd put your iPad DAP in. This sounds like some sort of inappropriate trenchcoat.

I finally reviewed two of the Cyberdrive earphones.

In short, I was at first disappointed - but realistic given their price bracket.

Then later when i did some tip rolling and tried different tips they started to shine.

The supplied tips are too thin to the job well.

Short story - good in ears, bad silicone tips.......but we all have oodles of tips anyway :)

enjoy - expatinjapan.

I couldn't get a proper seal with the included tips I got with my Clarity Feather Impact Bass combo so went to my fake Sony Hybrids right off. They work well and the headphones well outperform what I paid for them. I'm eagerly awaiting the Pro X. I'll finally have a native DSD capable DAP and with oodles of storage. Yip yip yay.

What do you think Glass, looking at the PHA picture would the SPDIF out be an optical out. Just trying to figure out how to connect my OPPO HA1. Not sure if I can connect via USB.

I checked the CES 2016 Vendors, Cyberdrive weren't listed. They did say they might be there. Just to eek out a bit more news..

Hope everyone's ok on the thread.

I think the latest render is an optical in, from what I can tell. I'd expect there will be potential for a digital out using the USB-C as that is what the Seiun Pro and Pro X do, but I'm just guessing.

Thanks glass, as Iam not using a PC. Just figured out I just needed a OTG for the OPPO USB in for my phone with Neutron and Onkyo HF Players but the PHA specs don't mention OTG. Just USB C on the Pro's as you kindly mentioned.
I'll keep asking noob questions until I figure it out...

NN all have a good one.

If you're satisfied with your iTouch, stay with it.  There's no reason to be upgrading if there's nothing wrong.

Yeah, good idea. thought i might be a good chance to get a decent DAP to future proof myself. Upscaling sounds interesting too. Not sure how that would sound or would it make any sonic difference to the usual 320kbps mp3 files

I'd upgrade just to get into FLAC and get more storage. Whether the Seiun Pro X is 'future proof" depends on how good it sounds. The clarity feather DAC sounds pretty decent (no critical listening yet, no time), so chances are good on Seiun sounding alright.

It's all a bit of a risk, crowd funding or reading a favourable review on line on a multi reviewed product. Even here you read about the top flight headphones and get the impression they either fell from angels ears, to cheap made beats clones.
This is a small risk for a modest amount of money. At RRP if you think they are ok and you payed less on IDGG all the better. Reviews give you confidence, hands on gives you clarity.

No pun intended..

Have a good one all

@Middy - wise words.

It's all about perspective - if you are stepping into the audiophile world for the first time, almost all the gear that gets favourable reviews on here will be a level up on the "standard" audio setup most people take for granted (phone using stock player and Beats/Skullcandy style 'phones), so you just pick the gear that suits your budget. As you say, crowdfunding is just taking a calculated risk on something that will hopefully turn out to be worth the RRP they quote, in which case you have bagged a bargain. You can mitigate the risk by reading reviews, but audio is a deeply subjective matter, so something that wouldn't be looked at twice by someone with a cupboard full of high end gear may be a revelation for someone used to listening to music filtered through an old tin bath (i.e first generation Beats users).

Personally aa newbie I have been very lucky with crowdfunding. I've managed to pick up some Flare R2As for myself and my girlfriend (mind blowing for the price) and a pair of Trinity Audio Atlas (equally mind blowing, but completely different). That lead to a subscription to Tidal, then picking up some Echobox gear on IDGG to get the 6 month free subscription (more IEMs due to arrive this week). Then backing the Seiun and Echobox DAPs, which again are promising big things.

If all of my purchases turn out OK then that will be a massive bonus, but as it stands I am still far better off than I was in terms of quality gear so if they flop it won't be the end of the world.
