I would like to add low-level detail to the list.   I hear much more with the Yggy and speakers.  The Master 7 tends to gloss over tiny detail like tape hiss, reverb tails, natural ambience, fade ins/ fade outs. etc.  The Yggy imaging supports the ability to pinpoint these subtle cues.

That's definitely true. The original writeup was again Gen V. Yggy is so much more resolving. Like going from farm league to professional baseball. The scary thing is that M7+OR5 (and only OR5) was already pretty darn resolving.

My Yggdrasil has been on for 13 days and it sounds bloody wonderful. The bass is impactful, detailed and textured, without any bloat. The mids and treble are all textured and detailed, without sounding analytical, edgy or dry. And the textured detail of the sound signature allows for a larger, very holographic soundstage, where I can place instrument around me. Furthermore the sound signature is so addicting, that I do not want to quit listening. I have listened to Zappa, to Mozart to Dave Bruebeck to pirate chants and it all sounds good, especially if you have a quality recording. I unfortunately put on a old old Metallica album, and it sounded horrible, like someone dragging there fingers on chalk board. I need to find so remastered Metallica and see if it sounds better. The Yggdrasil sounds magical after extensive warm up ( 170 hour +). I will never turn off my yggy, and I need to get a alternate power supply, to use when there are power outages lol. This damned, wonderful hobby keeps my wallet drained lol.

Glad to hear you're having fun with the Yggy.

Where does one find high quality recordings of pirate chants?  I know some people that may be interested in those.

I picked up the pirate chants at pirate festivals. The group I like Pirates Royals, has several cd's out. I do not know if they have a web page. I have not done any big festivals for a few years now and do not know if pirated royal are still togeather.. please have a great day, and I hope you find some high quality pirate chants.

Nice to hear that you are happy with the Yggdrasil and that it makes your good old Zappa records sound great! I have more than 50 Zappa records, mostly on vinyl, and it takes IMO great gears to make many of them “sound right”, if you know what I mean.

Sweet I only have 7 Zappa records, and I will get record player sometime and get into vinyl once again.

Remastered Zappa CDs (most of them) are stellar. Went back to original master tapes when possible. I am a a Zappa freak. I have all albums and several bootlegs. Those I'm interested to see how they sound through my "vinyl dac" arriving tomorrow.

i'm at 324 hours (13.5 days) and the Yggdrasil is an amazing DAC.  Made a few changes to my system a couple days ago to adjust for the Yggy's neutral sound.  Even with some new tubes in the amp the sound is really good.  And I also hear improvements in the Yggy sound quality beyond the first week of warm up.  Bass firms up, more weight in the lower midrange, and trebles smooth out.  It really does disappear.   So give the Yggy a full 14-days before sending it back.  I saw on the other thread where Baldr reported out of 200 of the first batch of Yggys sold one person returned it during the eval period.

Part of the Yggy warm up is myself accepting what the Yggy presents as real and believable. Very different from the Master 7.   I even had doubts at day 8 and 9 contemplated returning it for a refund as I didn't experience the total magic after the first week of warm up.  At 2 weeks I sing a different tune.   Really good DAC at any price.

What is your experience after the fast and furious honeymoon period?   Notice any difference after week 1?

I stopped comparing it with the Theta after 200smth hours, but I should perhaps do another round of this. But here's the thing. I have around 450 hours on the Yggdrasil and last night wife and myself listened to live recorded, vocal/acoustic/folk music on speakers, which was an incredible experience. It was so close to the real live experience that it was stunning to both of us. Stunning real and hard to put in words. It makes me want to go to live concerts less than before. As good as the Yggdrasil is with headphones, with speakers it's even better in my experience.

The small audiophile details - I stopped caring about that. Incredible DAC.

I have discovered the cause of the mid bass bloom on the master 7, it's vastly due to the 8x over-sampling on the DSP.

Once you set to 1x NOS mode, the m7 becomes pretty much more lean sounding with more depth in the soundstage and better instrument positioning. However you lose the crystal like treble and cymbals feels less shimmering. So It's a trade off.

Maybe the ygg OS/filter is superior in the sense that it doesn't need to have this kind of trade off? Maybe Purrin or dacladder have the answer on this.
