Has any had the time to run the beyer dt1990 pro through the V3. I just wondering if it would help tame the 8kHz peak or if it makes a good match with the V3.

With a Lokius, how would I target that 8k range when the only knobs around that value are 6kHz and 16kHz. Do these frequencies branch far enough left and right that you can target the 8kHz?.... the best way to tame the 8kHz peak, it seems, would be EQ .... time for Schiit Lokius? ....![]()

Hardware EQ is more for adding character to a sound than targeted equalization. Digital parametric EQ in combination with a sine sweeper would work vastly better for that purpose. It's also free. With a Lokius, how would I target that 8k range when the only knobs around that value are 6kHz and 16kHz. Yes the dac upgrade would be worthwhile, but also adding tubes would further smooth things out and add more richnessWhat about a Midgard/Bifrost 2 combo? Seems like they would be a good match.

Been doing some A/B between my Valhalla 3 and my Lyr 3. So much to love about both of them but they are soooo different. The V3 adds so much ambiance and echo that it is a completely different experience. If just sort of makes the music breath and sound more live. At the same time it lacks a little of the dynamics of the Lyr. You get some of that back by turning off filtering. I may have to buy a Sys just so that I can keep both since they are good at different types of music.
As an aside, Schiit support had me swap tubes side to side to see if the fading in and out moved. Weirdly, I haven't had either fading or protection mode happen since I did that change. It was not the first time that I had pulled the tubes. Not sure what that means but am pretty happy about it.

I definitely agree with your impressions. The V3 adds a bit of ambience to music. There’s also a nice punchiness to the bass (but maybe lacking a little heft). I'm considering a Sys as well to switch between the V3 and MJ3 as a pre-amp.
I have a new set of tubes coming today so I can see if I still have the channel issue. Although, pretty confident it is one of the stock tubes. Hopefully, the new set will also fill in some of the low end.

I need a BigSys so I can switch inputs and output with the same device and have it in a 6x9 factor so it fits in my pile.

Getting the ducks tube ammo lined up ...
... just evaluating the Valhalla 3 'protection trigger' issue ...
EDIT: Diameter & depth (in millimetres) of volume knob? You all just know that 'stock' will not do it for me

Do those have the square getters? Or traditional Russian UFO's? Not sure what year they switched.

Got my replacement VH3 today. The protection circuit cut-outs were getting worse with it tripping every 10-20 minutes -- even with stock tubes and a 300 ohm set of cans. Happy to say that all is well now. Back to enjoying the bliss that is the VH3's sound. Ran it with stock tubes for a couple of hours with my Arya Stealth HPs and zero issues. Been running with the stock 6N6Ps with socket savers in back and CV-455s with adapters in front for over an hour now and so far so good. S-U-B-L-I-M-E!

Got mine back today, too. It's running in the bedroom now with the CV4033s (to keep my tests the same) and will switch to the CV-455s in a while. So far so good!Get my replacement VH3 today. Yeah perhaps true. I have my Feliks Echo Mk2 paired with a Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M. Seems to be a good pairing.
