HI Everyone,

Found out there will be a significant delay in receiving my Ragnarok. However, they have a black one in stock. But does the black one have a lower resale value because it does not have the common color. Or is the special black one more unique. Also, I never seen a black yggy. And I think it might look strange to have a black one and a silver one.

Not trying to place to much bias on this question (pun intended). Any thoughts.

Do you have a Schiit amp or dac in black? Pics are especially cool if you have a black and silver one together.

It's all personal preference but if I can get my gear in black I do.  I would grab that in a heartbeat regardless of matching components.

I never thought of it as a burn in period as much as my Rag needs to be warm and toasty before she starts to sing her best. Class A amps generate and dissipate heat when in full song

If memory serves, it took about 100-150 hrs before my Rok fully settled in.
 
It wasn't anywhere near the amount of change the Jggy has but it was noticeable.

It does not get hot. Warm, but not hot!! There are lots of comments from owners about how hot the Raganrok gets because it is Class A.
On another note, I hooked some speakers to it to determine which was the headphone only output setting. I was unable to do so otherwise. 
Sounded very nice with a pair of smallish Boston bookshelfs.

It does not get hot. Warm, but not hot!! There are lots of comments from owners about how hot the Raganrok gets because it is Class A.

My Rag get pretty hot, but on the bottom, not the top.  I can put my hand on the top and keep it there (and I'm pretty heat sensitive).  I'd not touch the bottom for more than a split second.  I have my Rag up off the Yggy, so it doesn't heat the Yggy too much.

Reading earlier comments it seems there was a problem with hum on some units - has this now been solved or is it still a problem? Finally has anyone compared the Ragnorak with Sennheiser HDVD600/800 using Sennheiser HD800 or HD800S phones or Oppo PM1 phones? If so what are your impressions  - much better/worse or not much difference. I use both phones in balanced mode using Chord Hugo TT  as DAC into Sennheiser HDVD800. Wonder if replacing Sennheiser amp with Ragnorak will be a worthwhile upgrade or sideways move?

What do you have in mind? My plasma television buzzes and generates considerably more room heat. The Rag is completely silent - perhaps a little warm to the touch, but even then I have to go looking for the warmest spots on the case surface. Hum - no!
 
Sennheiser headphones will sound better on the Sennheiser amplifier. Rag is a definite planar king - all planar headphones simply sing! For your Oppo, this is not a side grade at all. But for your Sennheiser, well - you're going from one of the most optimized setups for the Sennheiser headphone to a really good solid state implementation. It is going to sound like a really good solid state implementation. Sorry, there's no magic button to make it add bass weight to the HD800. I've read a little, and recently listened to a HDVD800 with the pantheon of Sennheiser headphones, both balanced and single-ended. That amplifier sounds quite nice in balanced, BTW. Simply you're not going to get the same optimization through the Rag. It is going to be a flat, truly transparent (perhaps more so than you realized before hearing a Rag) sonic representation of the analog input.
 
In short, Rag is not a warm, romantic amplifier. It is a ruthless, truthful implementation of a solid state, which does its best at moving the music and getting out of the way. I like it for my speakers and I like it for my planar headphones. For my taste, I still like a little romance with my Sennheiser headphones, and will typically use a tube. Though the Sennheiser amplifier behaves similarly due to some unique engineering.
