Schiit Lyr+ : Impressions Thread

Yes, the volume should change in sharp steps rather than smoothly. To me the signal does sound kind of clicky during volume changes, but that may just be because the volume is changing instantly.

I don't have any experience with the Darkvoice and I don't know what sort of tube it uses. My Lyr+ came with a new manufacture Tung-Sol. If you mean the appearance of the tube in operation, I suppose the filament looks less bright than what I'd normally see in a guitar amp, though I imagine those are being run quite a lot harder. If you mean the tone, I suppose it sounds ever so slightly rolled off in the treble to me, but I would also say I might be imagining it.
Good to know the volume isn’t malfunctioning. I didn’t really think it was, but I thought I’d ask to be safe.

The stock Lyr tube is so dim I can’t even tell it’s on from a few feet away. It makes me wonder if it’s working ok. Probably is, just hasn‘t burnt in enough (that or the amp).

Thanks for your help tonight.

Very harmonious combination 👌

Can you hear a difference?

What you see glowing is part of the heater filament sticking out of the cathode/plate assembly. The amount of glow varies from tube to tube depending on how much of the filament is visible, and it can stick out either on top, bottom, or both. On dual triode tubes the Lyr is using, there can be different amount of glow from either side, too. I even have a tube that I can’t see glowing at all, but still works fine, the only indication of it working is that it gets hot. It’s nice with a good amount of glow though :)

The exact combination I am using in my home office. It is pure bliss for me. The other day I was listening to the 2018 remix of Pink Floyd Animals on vinyl through this combo and my mind was blown. Most of the time it just puts me in the enjoying music mindset. However ever so often I just marvel at the sound quality.

Yes this combo is awesome. Both complement each other perfectly. For the HE-1000V2 non Stealth, however, I would rather prefer an A90D.

I use a Wireworld Nano Eclipse. By the way, I also make this by myself on customer request completely individually

Later this week when I get my repaired amp I'll check if it has any stuck buttons, and if so I'll post a quick video here showing how to fix them.

I got my amp back today, and all the buttons are clicky. Therefore I won't be making a video on how to fix them.

The repair notes say the right channel outputs/resistors were blown and replaced.

I have a PSVANE tube installed (non-UK version) and burning in now. First impression out of the box is that it's MUCH thicker sounding down low compared to the stock Tung-Sol.

I love the look!
But an even thicker sound, I would not want to have.

I'm johnny new guy and started an account here to chime in:
I just got a Lyr+ in Nov 2022 and returned it to have a popping/low gain right channel repaired. Just got it back after the repair and after about 5h use it failed altogether, with no audio output. It then got very hot and started making a burning smell. Trying to decide whether to stick with Lyr or not - third time's a charm? I'd welcome input on this.

Not sure what you mean by "stick" with it? It's under warranty, so they are obligated to fix it, but I assume they are not obligated refund the purchase price after 15 days.

But my opinion is that anyone who wants to "play" with the tube a lot (like constantly removing it and re-inserting it, especially when powered on) consider something else. Better to use the remote to switch modes, but not sure why one would want to continually switch modes anyway.

My repaired Lyr+ survived a 12 hour burn-in today. I don't feel out of the woods yet, but that's hopeful I guess.

Wow seriously? That's ridiculous. I'm just going to be on pins and needles the entire time I own this amp.

As far as remote sensitivity goes, I wonder if teaching a learning remote the Schiity volume buttons would help? I'll try with a URC RF20 when I get some time.
No difference.
