Schiit Lokius Impressions & Reviews

I got my Lokius a few days ago. Anybody else find the quality control or fit & finish on the Lokius is a bit iffy?

- Knobs 3, 4, 5 and 6 aren't centered at 12:00.

- Knob 6 has a scuff/discoloration that is easy to see but harder to photograph.

- All of the switches seem too short; or Schiit mounted them too far back on the PCB so they don't stick out far enough.
- The two front switches arent centered in their slots. They almost look like they are going to scrape the case on their left side.

Minor nitpicks but the non-centered EQ knobs aren't cool - since EQ is the point of this device.
I had 1 or 2 of the knobs not perfectly centered on the Lokius. And my OG Loki is the same. It actually doesn't bother me, much. But I know on the Loki you can pull the knobs off and re-center them. I assume the Lokius would't be much different. Maybe turning the plastic inside (as a previous member mentioned) would make it right again.

The detents of both the knobs and the pots seem to be inconsistent how closely they point straight up to 12 o'clock.

All the knobs in the image below are at their center detent.

New knobs were clearly the order of the day!

but the new knobs don't all point straight up, despite having set screws.

the knobs below are all at their center detent

but the knurling makes them a treat to use!

and this one lives in an equipment closet anyhow

Nice, where did you get the knobs from? Those are very cool!

Those look great! Half the reason I chose black over silver is because the indicator line on the silver knobs was near impossible to see.

Nice knobs! Wait, let me rephrase that....nice looking indicator knobs. Thanks for sharing the links above too.

Are those replacement knobs the glossy or matte version? I can't find a comparison picture. Also, is there any chance the .625 size would fit?
lokius-knob-invoice.jpg

Looks like my invoice says Clear Matte and Black Matte.

0.625 would have 1/8" less space between adjacent knobs than 0.500"
Personally I'd rather have that extra space, so my fingers don't bump adjacent knobs if I'm really sweeping (twirling) a knob through its full range. YMMV.

Today I spent time comparing my Loki Mini/Modi 3 vs Lokius/Bifrost 2. I am a little surprised and disappointed to say I seem to prefer the Loki Mini. Maybe it's the wider Q factor and the way we perceive sound. But the tweaking seems more linear and oddly more granular on the Loki Mini than Lokius. I really have to crank the low bass knob to get the intended effect on the Lokius even with appropriate bass heavy music. Also, the knob feel when rotating seems better on the little guy. Overall the Mini seems to come together just perfectly in so many ways, while the bigger Lokius seems a little off or annoying in so many small ways.

Bought mine (in black) the day they were announced and have been running it ever since; months later I am still completely satisfied. The frequencies are right where my headphones and desktop speaker need them and I find the adjustments to be pretty tasteful and more finesse than brutish. Some of my knobs might be a tad off of straight up 12:00 but it doesn't bother me.

Overall, it was a luxury purchase for me and I have no regrets.Viva la Lokius.

Got my unit today...welp.

I auditioned it for about 30 minutes, after which it just died out of the blue.

Tested the power adapter, 18.2VAC output, a bit high for the 14-16VAC rating on the Lokius, but enough to burn the unit?

In any case, kinda disappointing QA didn't catch this one before sending it, especially after paying almost $70 in duty fees.
