Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The album that track is on is called "Secret South" and is highly recommended.
According to Amazon, I just purchased the last new copy of "Secret South" that they had in stock. They still have some used copies though.

When I was completing my Chris Whitley collection, I was ordering new and used CD's from all across the US & Europe. I hadn't realized that so many of his releases were out of print. Many of his out of print albums are available on streaming services though...

Thanks again for the recommendation!

@Ripper2860 Well, allow me to rephrase. Underutilized, perhaps?

@Verde And Black The day's chores are done, the lawn freshly mowed, and now, may I present the inaugural Verde and Black cocktail.

1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
1 oz St. Germain
2 oz Plantation 20th Anniversary Barbados XO rum

Delicious. A perfect early summer drink (I can actually say that with a straight face today since it is 77° F outside here in lovely Minnesota as I type this). If I decide to have another, I'll switch to the Bumbu XO rum, which is also an excellent, but less expensive rum. Have to save the Plantation for proper special occasions like this one.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday. Going to explore the 16 Horsepower catalog now at @Ableza's suggestion, as I sip this delightful cocktail.

Cheers!

Definitely will work on naps. I'll reach out for information and guidance as needed.

As for motivating the wife to continue working - the monthly apt rent for our youngest girl should be sufficient motivation. At least for another year. 😒

** I'll tell her daily how lucky she is to be working and how miserable it is to be retired and struggle to fill 8 hours a day every day. I mean there's only so much 'I dream of Genie' one can watch. 😏
If you don't have Netflix, go ahead and subscribe. You can spend the first couple months binging on some pretty good series, which will also condition you properly for doing nothing in the future.

If we’re talking over produced Nashville slick, God/Beer/Dogs/Truck country, I’m with you.

But if you’re talking Red Dirt/Outlaw/Alterative/Real country, well, let’s just say a whole lot of it is Punk Rock as hell.

How do you feel about X, The Blasters, Hank III, The Bottle Rockets, The Meat Puppets, Gun Club, Unlce Tupelo, etc? Basically, if you like them, or anything on Bloodshot Records, or Steve Earle or Lone Justice has put out, that Renderers’ record is worth looking at.
Somehow, I'm unfamiliar with most of those. Might warrant some looking into. I grew up the proverbial skater kid in a cowboy town and developed my extreme loathing of country music early on. The fact that most country music has only gotten progressively worse over the decades means my outlook towards the genre has not warmed up any. 😝

*I do love Johnny Cash but that's because he transcends the country genre completely to his own realm.

Indeed it is. I'm on my second. Need to be properly lubricated before The Last of Us episode later tonight.

Ah, @33na3rd I was just about to navigate there to see what I could find, after discovering that neither of my two favorite local record shops had any of their records in stock. Just finishing listening to Secret South. Probably a good thing for my wallet you got there first.

@Ableza Looks like there are a couple of bands that formed after 16 Horsepower split: Lilium and Wovenhand. Have you checked either of them out?

*I do love Johnny Cash but that's because he transcends the country genre completely to his own realm.
Ah, you are hereby redeemed.

Popular, mass market pop music with a twang, for sure.

But there’s stuff out there, almost like college radio was to rock in the 80s and early 90s that is well worth digging into, and if you like Johnny Cash, there’s a pretty clear direct lineage to most of the artists I like.

I don't really know Lilium, but Wovenhand is the band formed by David Edwards after 16HP broke up. I like them, although not as much as 16HP.

Happy Sunday (or sorry it's Monday if applicable)!

(I've posted this one before but it's just too much fun not to recommend again.)

@Ripper2860 I can’t keep up with you.

I was just getting around to re-listening to People of the Fast Flowing River by Work, Money Death for the second time because it’s incredibly fun. And I took a detour through Swiss Movement by Les McCann and Eddie Harris, which is remarkable because it reminded me in parts. But then you’re posting Ghost Note and I’m trying to make time to listen to what you’re listening to in addition to whatever I’m listening to.

Do you have an RSS feed? A google doc? A last.fm scrobble? I need a way to keep track of you besides scribbling down what you last posted. I’m way behind. People used to come to me for good ideas. Now my IRL friends are like “who is this ripper dude?”.

Amazing! Try a couple dashes of bitters in there too.
