OK I am joining the ranks of the "Retired," albeit involuntarily. My company has informed me my services are no longer required as of 15 May. I'd say it smelled of age discrimination, but the entire semiconductor manufacturing support ecosystem is currently in turmoil and companies like Intel are laying off 20%, so it likely has more to do with business being off significantly. I am not the only one viewing the sharp side of the axe.

In any case, I plan to serve out these last two weeks in a professional short-timer manner, take a couple weeks or months off to depressurize, then figure out what, if anything, comes next. I've already been offered a couple consultant gigs but that decision will come later.

Onward!
I’m in my early 50s, and was involuntarily retired from my last corporate job four years ago and change as the hospitality sector got destroyed by COVID. I had expected (and wanted) to finish off my career there. Loved the brand and my colleagues.

Well, having built long term, mutually supportive relationships with people in the field paid off, because the consulting gigs came on fast, and I’m now earning more, even taking into account paying for my own health insurance, building a SEP IRA, and the self employment tax penalty (I’m reorganizing into an S-Corp to help with that) than I did at my last job.

I’m also working less, and if I don’t like a project, I simply pass.

And, my old company is a shadow of its former self. Almost all the best people have moved on, one way or another, and I would be miserable working there today. Everything that made the brand unique and awesome has been jettisoned by the private equity management that “saved” it.

It’s sometimes nervy, and can bring some angst, but I can’t say it didn’t turn out to be a good thing, at least so far.

Potential VH3 tube rollers beware: Tube adapters may be out due to restricted tube opening size.

I have it on good authority that the inexpensive-est black socket savers fit. After that, the world is your oyster!

Thanks. I found 4x of the Tubemonger spacers I had and they work just fine. I also have a couple of Tubemonger 12A*7 adapters I used with VH2 that should work nicely.

Sadly, Tubemonger is very close to closing, I think.

Good news! After 72 hours our power has finally come back on! There were something like 400k homes without power at one point. I'll grudgingly admit they did ok.

I confident I can afford them (even with tariffs) after mowing a few lawns. After all, I'm talking Amazon, not Herbie's. 🤣

Given my allergies, I am typically on the losing end of that battle. 🙄
