So, Schiit did make a toaster...!One more thing re: VH3. If you are planning on stacking it atop BF2 or any other DAC, you may want to think about bigger feet or spacers. Whatever you put under VH3 will get really, really toasty.
A more elegant / visually appealing solution will be had at a later date.![]()

Sorry to hear this. I hope whatever is next goes well.OK I am joining the ranks of the "Retired," albeit involuntarily. My company has informed me my services are no longer required as of 15 May. I'd say it smelled of age discrimination, but the entire semiconductor manufacturing support ecosystem is currently in turmoil and companies like Intel are laying off 20%, so it likely has more to do with business being off significantly. I am not the only one viewing the sharp side of the axe.
In any case, I plan to serve out these last two weeks in a professional short-timer manner, take a couple weeks or months off to depressurize, then figure out what, if anything, comes next. I've already been offered a couple consultant gigs but that decision will come later.
Onward!
That's a very nice sculpture of you, @Ripper2860 and @Paladin79 .
Brings back memories of the roller rink. 1st time hearing an 808 kick drum turned up to the max in that large space was something else!I resemble that remark.
Brass monkeys. Those funky monkeys...![]()
I may have to get a primate to explain that comment. That's a very nice sculpture of you, @Ripper2860 and @Paladin79 .
Looks like brass, too, given the above commentary...
Reminds me of the following… you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can’t wipe your friends on your pants.Sometimes, you mow the lawn, and sometimes, the lawn mows you…
Not porcelain?I resemble that remark.

So can I (by checking my bank statementI can very easily tell the difference between a $12 and a $145 bottle.![]()
..... now .....So, we now know how to make you speechless!!
I've not played around with SS gain much as in my system it has always been the quieter and duller of the three options. I'd have to really crank it to get equivalent volume to even the no-gain passive mode. That has always seemed weird to me.@sixergixer octal LISST with an adapter should work in Freya N just fine. have you tried the SS gain mode? bump up the volume knob (20 clicks???) vs tube gain which is +12dB higher, assuming same gains for each respective mode vs Freya+F. or be adventurous and get @ArmchairPhilosopher to send you some boards he scrounged from Jason's "bone pile"
I have long been curious: What are the rails exactly? Are they a physical component or is that technical jargon for a particular 'point' at which that voltage is measured? Like, could someone circle these rails on one of the nudie chassis images and say, "It's right there, noob." This noob would like to know.Valhalla 3? We have a discrete regulated 200V rail, cap-multiplier-smoothed +/-100V rails, and regulated +/-12V rails. That’s far more complex than the previous designs.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the Islay Barley release, like the Classic Laddie, is an unpeated malt. There is a strong salinity owing to Bruichladdich's coastal location that permeates the dram and that can be easily mistaken for peat. I think it is just their Port Charlotte and Octomore releases that are peated. Delicious drams either way - they're one of my favorite Scottish single malts!Anyway, please do report back, and this is my plug for one of my favorites: Bruichladdich (pronounced "brook-laddie" I believe) Islay Barley. I discovered this at a whisky bar in NYC when I asked for something unusual. The server brought this out and he was right: it's complex and interesting, not just all about the peat and nothing but the peat.
I had not heard of Black Art, so thank you, @Ableza - I must go try and find some...

A rail is technical jargon for a power supply output voltage connection point. It could be a literal metal piece that resembles a rail or it could just be a solder point.I have long been curious: What are the rails exactly?
