Bismarck’s all tuckered out from being outside the library for hours with dogs and people with mom whilst dad shopped. (We took turns, she bought a bunch of books)….

This CD is awesome. Kara/Skoll have returned my system to wonderful-ness.

Got a Yggy GS2 on loan from a friend which I've been really impressed with for the price. It sounds a little lean vs the dacs that I'm more used to, both the Bricasti MC1 and the Meitner MA3, but it has a great sense of depth and layering. It also has pretty decent texture especially in the low end. I just find the overall weight of the sound and the bass quantity to be less then I'd like ideally. Makes me interested in trying an OG/A2 at some point. Incredible value though and I'd be happy using it on it's own if I wasn't switching between the other dacs.

Friend who loaned it wanted me to put all my Schiit together in the rack. It's a tight fit in parts but is all wired up and works well. MJ3 is mostly there for show and am worried it would overheat like that. Am driving tungsten with Urd -> Yggy -> Kara -> Tyrs. The top Tyr gets a little warm but is running fine otherwise.

The Lord Vader of Schiit stacks! I wonder if @Jason Stoddard would tell you not to stack your Tyrs.

What makes particular tubes "a favorite"?
As @sam6550a noted, it's the sound. 5 things at play here:

1) Personal preference. What sound involves you the most? Different strokes, different folks and all that.
2) Synergy with the amp (or component) in play. Some tubes may sound great in one amp, but maybe not so great in another.
3) Synergy with the other tubes in the component. A Tung Sol 5998 and a Melz 1578 are a beautiful marriage in many amps. That same Tung Sol with a Foton 6N8S? Not so much. Conversely, that Melz 1578 paired with, say, a Cetron 7236? Not so much also.
4) Synergy with the headphones (or loudspeakers) in play.

And once all those stars are aligned and bringing forth musical bliss?

5) We're audiophiles, and have the constant, unrelenting nag of "Can I make it even better?" 🤣

When I get Vali3 I'm going to hunt a Tung Sol 5998 and I'm gonna need y'all to sign off on the purchase when I do so I don't get ripped of or ganked by a fake one.

One tiny issue: a 5998 won't work in a Vali 3. Other than that, you're good to go. 🤣

Unless you know something we don't about Vali 3, a 5998 would be only for display purposes. :D

Just see if you can manage to find one of Tom's Incubus amps up for sale and just call it a day.* A TS 5998 and a nice Brimar or 50s Melz 6SN7 equivalent and you'll never want for another HP amp -- ever!! :D

* Good luck with that!

** While I've been very speaker-centric lately, I have declared tomorrow Incubus and HP day!
