I'm foreign to the whole tube rolling phenomenon and rather view myself as the street urchin trying to divine what the diners in the fancy restaurant are enjoying. (hst, I'm not tube-curious more tube-cognoscenti-curious; that is, I'm curious about what the tube lovers love, rather than the tubes themselves).
What makes a particular tube a favorite is that it SOUNDS good to the listener. Why are there differences? Short answer: All were assembled by humans, and some did it one way and some did it another way, and some sound better than others. Long answer: I do not want to write a book. Yet.
My daughter has a rescue greyhound and the land to go with it. Regal creature, not the average pooch.
Tried RCBnTn’s Rawsons Creek recommendation and really liked it. I avoided it because I’ve had the big brother Noah’s Mill and was unimpressed. Wonderfully light and complex at the same time. A taste all its own that doesn’t mimick anything else I’ve tasted. Also had the Oban 10 year Little Bay which was like a cousin to the Rawson’s being light and complex. Everyone likes the 14 y/o as do I but the Little Bay is a fun drop at an easier hit to the wallet.
Just back from scoring 15 CDs at $1 each from a local library used sale. Got 4 mercury living presences and 2 rca shaded doggy’s… now up
Respighi
PS: <poke> imaging and soundstaging wonderfully… depth, placement, bloom, heft, delicacy… wonderful. Can’t wait for the Fountains and Pines part with the KILLER bass!
Apologies for the painting mess; we’ve finally finished this room and are now working on the master suite (back/left). FWIW there is 5+ feet behind the Duetta Siggy’s… and the hall goes symmetrically left and right on either side… so I “unload” that end of the room for bass, which is awesome. Best room I’ve ever had for these: 15.5 x 25.5… my own concert hall… Bismarck is asleep on wifey’s lap in her chair to my immediate left.
Apparently there are still big stashes around....somewhere. Langrex and Upscale Audio continue to amaze me with these "finds" where suddenly they have 300 - 500 of some uber-desirable and expensive tube in their stock. If only I knew how to do what they do.....
