but thorium and other alloys are verbotten.
All this time, here I was thinking that old tubes glowed because of thermal radiation! :D

Gotta share one of my favorites...

Saw them in concert in the 80s. Still ranks as one of my most memorable concerts.
I've liked Wayne Shorter for years. Weather Report has been among my most favorite bands. I've never had the pleasure to see them live.

My go to Weather Report album has always been Heavy Weather. It came out the same year I graduated HS (1977). Constant play with Steely Dan Aja among others.

oh!

Aren't there tubes with like black glass or lined with blackness of some sort? That would be something to see, silver Vali3 with a black tube.
Yep many are WW 2 vintage but I mostly own 6SN7’s like that, with adapter they work fine in a Vali.

With kids, there's always the question as to whether you raised them right.
Those moments showing that you did are priceless.

My eldest gifted us the below after a recent trip to Iceland. Brings tears to my eyes!

Coin-toss between this one and Heavy Weather.

I agree Wayne Shorter is amazing, but so is Joe and Jaco.

Watching Jaco perform 'Donna-Lee' as a solo during the band's intermission was a real experience.

Interrupting the Vali 3 discussion (though I should probably stock up on NOS GE JAN 5670 that I use in my preamp before the Schiit Effect raises prices) to note that Blue Note has some screaming deals on some very good releases right now… like $12.59 for Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers’ Just Coolin’ on vinyl. Just dropped some decent coin on some stuff I’ve been looking at for a while.

Note: a lot available in multiple formats, including FLAC, not just physical media.

Wheat it will be then. Total Wine is about 15 miles from my house and it rained all day today, and since people in Arizona forget how to drive on wet roads I decided to wait. Tomorrow!
Sounds like a smart move. Cheers!🍻

The 5670s are excellent, as are the Tesla 6CC42s. But finding the Teslas not as easy as the 5670s.

Garage 1217 also makes adapters that swing both ways. You can go 5670 to 6922 in Vali 2, or 6922 to 5670/6N3P, in 2++ or 3. And DO NOT try this with adapters from other vendors.
Two great tubes for the Vali 2++ are the NOS GE 5670 5-star white/red, and NOS RCA Command 5670. I also picked up a NOS Russian 6N3P, Gold-Grid, triple-mica for $5.00, and it also sounds fantastic. To my ears, the RCA sounds the most “tube-like” of the three.

..... And I have a lone 396A pining away in the stash feeling unloved.....
