Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Sorry. So this has happened before? I'm sure Schiit will handle that for you, but if this has happened again, maybe it's a bad run of resistors from a supplier.
Yes, same problem last Feb.

Have you opened the case? A resistor burned? Has the unit been modified?
I open and check after I smell the burnt, I never modify it.

It is connected to iPhone and streaming Apple Music via camera kit, suddenly it stop playing and I smell the burnt, the LED is not lit .... same as last year.

Most likely .... The first faulty one s/n ends with 255, 2nd one 617

Interesting post. I accept this ridiculous hobby might throw magic blue smoke into my eyes. I can't assume zero failure. I sometimes look in the mirror and tell myself these toys are just that -- luxury items. They are NOT life saving devices -- like smoke detectors or fire extinguishers.

BTW, I'm not throwing shade at you @monf3307 ... you make valid points, eh. :smile_phones:
nah not taken any bad way! you are absolutely right these are not pacemakers or mil-spec targeting optics.

I do not know if the problem is the resistor R49 or the small thing B20 100 2151 at its left cause the problem.....

It looks like just 2 folks have stated this happened to them. Am I missing more? (I do have a habit of skimming)

Warranty is the right thing to ask for if anything went south.

Having taken the time to read the very brief thread, only two people reported issues and neither stated that their devices caught fire. It’s always worth remembering that those who don’t have any issues rarely comment whereas those who have issues often make it seem like it‘s a big deal.

yeah i think i will be adding a combo magni on my next order :) rock

should be a great unit to travel with too

That is in the power supply filtering area. The resistor must be carrying a high current. There’s something under R49 and that is carbonized.

Agreed. Seems like the resistor is a victim of a problem upstream/elsewhere.

Likely a symptom of something else not working right in the circuit. Resistors only burn when carrying more current than they are designed for.
Already sent a message to Jason, see what is next.....
